He'll be back but chances are you won't see him unless he hooked up with a doe.

There is obviously something there he likes and will certainly come back. I tried a neck shot late one evening on a large racked buck because I couldn't see his body well enought to chance wounding him, so I shot for the neck knowing he was either a dead deer or an unwounded deer. I missed and saw him flag off with his does. He was back the next week during the afternoon by himself and I took him in the lungs at about 80 years with my 270 Winchester. Keep hunting him, but get there really early and wait for him to make the move... I would not encourage a running shot at a Whitetail because of their loping gait and speed if running outright. Wait until you have the advantage...not him.
