RE: good knife
Get a case and save some money, yet I have heard the quality of case has really gone down. Also the oldtimer or gerber are good carry around pocket knife. If you really want a great knife, have Bone make you one. You will pay a butt load for it, that is if you can get one made.

RE: good knife
I currenly carry a Spyderco Delica. I've had it for over 5 years. I use two sharpeners. A Smith's sharpening kit at home , and I carry a gerber diamond stone travel sharpener in bag. It holds an excellent edge and has beed very durrable. If I wsa gonna go out and get another knife, I'd be tempted toward a Benchmade, or Kershaw assisted opener. they would run you between 100-140 dollars. Yeah, you can get a functional knife for much less. But go to Walmart and look at all the knives there. pick them up open them with your eyes closed. Then go to a cutlery store and look at some higher end knives. The feel is amazing. And I guess that's why I still carry the spyderco. It runs about 80 bucks and I could have replaced it by now, but it opens like a dream, locks tight, holds one hell of an edge and basicly does every thing I have ever asked of it.

RE: good knife
Buck an Old Timer have been around ever since I can remember and I have several of both. One was handed down to me by my father. I havent found anything I cant use it on...and that includes deer. Easy to sharpen and they hold a good edge. You cant go wrong with either of these.

RE: good knife
If you want a nice knife with a wooden handle, check out the Gerber Freeman Folder. I'm not sure what the street price is, but you can sure find them on Ebay ...
