RE: I killed a doe today
Kudos to you sis ,
not many folks can muster that kind of strength . Considering what you do for a living it's a marvel to me that you can deer hunt at all . |
RE: I killed a doe today
Just out of curiosity, what is the fastest way to shot a wounded deer so that it will expire quickly Her head was the easiest shot. I shot. She still bobbled. So, I got closer & shot her vitals, the best I could while she was laying down. Her head still bobbled. I knew I had hit her twice. Now I was feeling really bad. I waited about 5 minutes. I had a knife, actually Coug Mag had given me this knife, and I went over to her. That's when I really felt bad. She looked up at me and looked so hurt. I went to slit her throat, but, she kicked me. She had awesome strength. I knew I had better end this quickly or she would suffer more. I stuck the knife in her lungs. As she went out, I cried. After she died, I flipped her over and saw where the vehicle had hit her. It was an old wound. She had suffered a long time. On a lighter note, I almost saved a baby fawn.....one of our does died a couple of years ago. A farmhand came to me & told me she just dropped dead. I got a knife, cut her womb open immediately & tried to save the fawn. I could've saved it. It was old enough to be born, but, it was still born. In fact, that was the reason the doe died. The toxins had killed her. But, at least it was a hopeful situation. I think I could save a fawn like that next time, if I am faced with that again. Turkey Fan.....did you get the lure yet?:) |
RE: I killed a doe today
Sunset you did a very admirable thing for the deer. I comend you on that. Hardest thing for me is to watch the animal suffer that just tears me up inside. I may have caused the pain I may have nor but regardless never like to see them suffer!

RE: I killed a doe today
Good job sunset. On a similar line...one of my friends works for the pipeline where I live. A nice 9 point was rubbing on a chainlink fencepost (no kidding) and got his rack caught up in the fence. He called to see if I wanted to come out and shoot it. I went out there, not to shoot it, but see it for my self. Someone at the pipeline came out to shoot it with his bow and gut shot it at close range[:@] and had to shoot it again. He got the deer mounted. Still makes me think very little of his ethics and marksmanship. I witnessed the field dressing but was too late to see the deer alive hooked in the fence. Did see some pics of it. Everyone he works with gives him a hard time about that. He said he didn't want to try and free it for fear of himself getting injured. Still makes me cringe that he hit it that bad at about 15 feet.[:'(]
