Got a nice buck this year!!
First of all, I want to thank farmcntry for setting me up with Mike McKean. I was a little worried at first about the hunt, until I finally made it to the ranch where my hunt was held and realized that everything was set up as it should have been.
When I arrived at the ranch and met with the landowner in Wyoming, he told me that another hunter was at the ranch the week before and only saw 12 deer while he was there. I figured that with my experience, I should see a few more than that. The first days' hunt was uneventful. 7 hours of nothing, then two mulie does. At least I felt a little more confidence now.
The next morning started out great with a nice herd of five deer, but no shooters. I drove to another pasture and noticed the 12 that the landowner had spoke about. 10 does and two small mulie bucks. Then I saw 4 whitetails, but again no shooters. I drove a little further and waited by another ravine and soon 10 more mulie does showed up. Figuring that something better would come along, I let them go by. About an hour later, I went deer into his ranch and began to scan another draw when I noticed a large ranch from a mulie buck!!!! I figured that this was mine for the taking. I started to stalk him and was about 75 yards from him, when he caught my scent and bolted. No clean shot as he ran straight away, but my wife did get him on tape as he bounded away.
I was pretty disgusted so I decided to take a break and came back out into the field at 3:00 that afternoon. I noticed nothing for about 3 hours until 2 whitetails doe appeared. It was then starting to get a little dark, since the sun had just went down. So I decided to drive back through the ranch on my way back for the light. As I rounded the last curve, I noticed a real nice rack above a small hill in the pasture. It looked wide enough, so I decide to get closer to get a shot. I got to the point of where I could see the deer well and noticed that it was the same buck that I saw earlier in the day. To say the least, he didn't make it too far. One shot and down he went!!!! He has a 20 1/2 inch spread and sits at least 15-16 inches off his head!!! Great buck for my first mulie. TO say the least, he's at the taxidermist right now.
I hope that everyone else's hunt goes as well as mine did this year.

RE: Got a nice buck this year!!
Thank you all. I promise to to update this as soon as I get the film developed.
Mulie hunting is so much more difficult than what Whitetail hunting is, it seems. Totally different habits and it's hard to get a good shot with the way that they run.
