i was using a borrowed sks and the first deer i ever shot was a 7 pt buck so i was hooked from the get go.

Savage 340C in .30-30 Win. I shot two deer with that until moving up to a .30-06.

Very first (and second) were with an old 40 lb Bear recurve. Both 8 pointers. First rifle kill was with a Savage 110 LH in .243. Boy I miss that old rifle. That rifle could shoot the gnats off a flys butt at 100 yds. But, being young and stupid, I traded it for something else. Don't remember what.

A slug gun (Remington 870 Express,grooved barrel) ,that's all i could afford at that time till i got my ".270",,took a Blacktail button horn on first shot, felled it over with that Remington slugger.

12 gauge DB, 000 buck shot, Doe, 40 years ago Best deer I ever shot. Much more exciting than a recent 10 point/142 B&C. Same thought for the other post about should a 12 year old shoot a 3" spike. Go for it it will still be his best deer.

First deer was taken in 1971 with a 7 X 57 Steyr Mannlicher bolt using express iron sights at 70 yards....way back when I could see well enough to use iron sights!
Still seems like yesterday though...I can remember the details clearly.

nice little 6 point running full speed with my Browning 12 guage shooting a 3" Rottweil..deer did a nice little cartwheel and landed with its tines stuck in a tree so it looked like he was sitting there looking at me..

Remington 742 BDL .30-06 with a weaver 3x9. Doe at about 100 yards.

1300 win shotgun. open sights. 9 point, 130". First deer I have ever seen while hunting.( I had only been hunting about 20min.) VERY LUCKY shot.

My first was a big doe that weighed in at 162 lbs, I shot her with a 308 win loaded with 150 grain remington core lokts at about 175 yards.

i got my first deer with a ruger 25' 06 , at about 50 yards. It was a 2x2 buck, weighed 175 lbs field dressed i do believe.

20ga. bolt action Mossberg. eleven point buck, dressed out 200 lbs. first deer season in Illinois (1957). I'm still trying to top that first one.

Remington 7600 in .30-06. Button buck - bullet went in one ear and out the other, he didn't even twitch!

First deer was with a Browning BAR in .30-06, big 4 pointer that would have been a monster if I had known better then. The rack is bigger than my 8 pointer I shot ;)

Two years ago, with .270 and core-Loks I dropped a doe with a shot to the spine then the next day dropped a very small six point (almost a spike) (very wierd) with the exact same shot to the spine. All the guys at the camp call me the cyropractor (cant spell):D I was 13.

:D Last season I dropped an 8-point with 19 3/4 in spread, 9 and 10in G2's 7 and 6in G3s,scored 137 B&C :D
Looking forward to my 3rd and most definately not last deer season:D

killed my first deer with a bow lil doe licked my bow pull up rope under my stand 80lbs dressed (guess ) just did the butchering myself no scale ran 30 yrds !

Winchester model 94 in 32 special winchester. Doe.This was in 1962 at the age of 11 with my dads gun which I have now.

Wyoming, 1978: Mule deer - doe. Ruger 77, .308Win., Leupold 1-4x scope. Hornady ammo with 150gr. bullet. Range approx. 75yds.

Winchester 00 buck. One pellet hit the 6 point in the temple.
I went to gut him. Grabbed one leg and the other hit me in the head. I ran about 50 yds thinkin the deer was after me. I was about 12 years old.

i shot my first deer which was a spike buck with a 4-10 slug.. lol it dropped on one shot i was surprised... but my dad made me use the 4-10 because my brother was using the 20 guage... but i got him last year

30-30 great shooting little gun. I bet I'm not the only one to use a 30-30 on my first deer. Still a great gun for kids. Just thinking about it makes me want to pull it out and hunt. with it. Hard to put down my 7mm mag though.

I dropped a nice 8 point in his tracks with a Remington 1100 .20 with Federal Slugs...I sure was happy:)
