I was diagnosed about 6 months ago. mine is caused by a slow pancreas that doesnt produce enough insulin. i take avandamet three times a day and watch my diet. diet drinks and rarely a real mt dew.
I check my glucose levels about twice a day now . i have been stable for a while and my a1c levels are normal. i went from a 13.6 to a 7.3 . blood sugar levels were 400+ range now average 100.

Don't stop living and don't let the shock get to you . just stay on top of it and keep going.

There is hope for us . new med's are being developed all the time and soon i'll bet they will have it beat.
thanks to new meds i can just take pills no shots. years ago i would have been on the shots .
hey they even have new glucometers that read from your skin. no more lance jabs!
just don't stop!

I've been a diabetic now for 24 years. It doesn't really affect my hunting time. I just make sure I have plenty to eat in my pack incase of low bs. Anyone here on the pump? I've been thinking of trying it, but don't know about all the stuff attached to you. Does it seem to always get in the way?

Ghille, I am a 51 yo Type 1 diabetic who was diagnosed in 1981.
I lived most of my life in the Angeles National Forest in Southern Calofornia; where I hunted Mule Deer, Rabbits, doves, ducks, and hogs since an early age.

I have lived on my 20 acres in South Texas the past 5 years where I hunt White Tail, Axis, Black Buck, Rio Grande Turkey's, Hogs, Dove, Duck, Geese, and Sandhill Cranes.

My diabetes has never been easy, but I worked 2 years on a commercial fishing boat in Alasks, have backpacked and climbed most of the highest peaks in the Western US, and am an athlete since I was diagnosed.
