i will be using my trusty 243 with a leupold var x 2 3-9x40 and shooting 100 nosler partitions.

i really wanted to use my 270 however being on the golf team and all this homework it just dosen't look like i will have time to get used to the rifle:(

I've been hunting for 17 years and have always used a 12 ga or my .30-06. This year, I'm taking my Coyote set-up for deer hunting. I've never taken a deer with it before, but I'm confident in it. Its a tac driver

Remington Model 700 ADL - .243 Win
Remington Core-lokt 100 grains
Simmons 4.5x - 12x 40mm

My sons hunting with a .243 this year so I figured - I'll do the same!

RE: which rifle will you be taking

Will be using my .243 of course, dont need no other stinkin caliber, it does it all for me here in Texas, and does it very well I might add.
Hey skyhigh throw them corelocks in the trash, try 100 gr Hornady's not the light magnums just the regular 100 gr hornady's. Talk about driving tacks and dropp'n deer or hogs. I would highly reccomend them for the .243. If your just going after deer and are not shooting over .200 yds try the Federal 85 gr. Hollow points. They blow huge holes in deer
I just dont like them on hogs. Or over 200yds cause of wind drift. I have tested lots of different ammo in my .243 and these two are the best at the range and on animals.
PS remember to let me know if you try them and their results.

I may break out the Browning A-Bolt Stalker in 7mm using 140 gr. Ballistic Tips.
Scope: Leopold Vari-X III 4 - 12 x 40mm

....and yes, I love Ballistic Tips;)

RE: which rifle will you be taking

Actually, I'm taking two out to the stand this year for rifle season (or that's the thinking right now!). Primary will be a 50 caliber muzzleloader, replica of Kentucky long rifle, open sights, Pedersoli cap lock with 295 grain Powerbelts. Because this is my first year owning a muzzleloader, I am also bringing my Savage 308 lever action, 180 grain, with Leopold Vari-x II 2x-7x.

My hunting partners think I'm crazy, but it's only about a 1/4 mile walk in the woods to my stand. Also, if people think you're crazy, they tend to leave you alone, right?

RE: which rifle will you be taking

I'll be using my Winchester Model 70 featherweight in .243 with a Leupold VariX-III 3.5-10X. I'll be using Winchester SuperX 100 grain cartridges. I'm also using this rig on my first pronghorn antelope hunt in mid-October this year in Wyoming. I bought the rifle new last fall and have not taken a game animal with it yet. I took a buck with my .25-06 and then switched to the .243 to take a doe, but missed the one shot I had on a doe that season. The doe stuck her nose out from behind a tree, reaching up to nibble persimmons. Then her head was out in the open. Then her neck was out in the open. I was freaking out. Then when her body was out I think I got impatient and shot over her back. The heavy manufacturer's trigger -- 6 LBS measured by the gun smith who lightened it to 2.8 LBS after the season -- may have contributed to my miss, also. The shot was about 150 yards and I was in a kneeling position: should have been able to make the shot, I just muffed it. I followed it up carefully but found no signs of a hit, and I didn't think I had hit at the time either.
