my stand is gone
I was out getting some of my stands ready. This one stand that I just left up from last year part of it was gone. My darn climbing sticks were gone. Its hard to believe that someone around where I live would come that far into my woods to steal my stand. Its very sad I guess am going to lock up my stand to the tree. Has this ever happen to anyone else? I not very happy at all.[:@][:@]

RE: my stand is gone
I took a stand season before last. Thats only because the guy was trespassing and was warned twice to take his stand down and didnt.
Ive never had one of mine taken, thats gotta suck. Hope you catch this guy! |
RE: my stand is gone
Dude - I feel your pain.
A few years ago I had a couple hundred dollars worth of my gear stolen from (what I thought) was a remote & well hidden place in the woods in a national forest in Upper MI. I can't tell you how disappointed I was. For me, that was a hard lesson to learn. If I ever see someone else's stand/gear/blind I stay clear of it. I don't go climbing other hunter's stands, walk around, or snoop in their area. I still can't believe that there are hunters out there that don't RESPECT other hunter's stuff. One Question Deerhunter1224, Are you on public or private land? I hate to say it.......but if you were on public land, & left your stuff out there - your asking for trouble. Sorry for your misfortune, Yoopper Hunter |
RE: my stand is gone
one year after bow season was over i went to get my stand out of the tree but someone took my steps out of the tree. The funny thing is one day while walking through my woods i found a nice summit treestand in a tree on my property and guess what it had my steps in the tree i knew they were my steps because they were green with my initials carved in them A. B. I called a friend of mine on my cell phone who is the only other person who is allowed to hunt my property he said the stand was not his. but the stand was locked with a cable and a Ameican lock company pad lock I backed off about 10 paces and blasted the lock with my marlin 44 mag. Took my new treestand home, i got my Infrared deer cam and set it up on tree about 15 yards to the right of the tree that had the stand on it. I left it out there for a few days and would check it periodically see if it took any pictures then after the 4th day it took 3 pictures one of little buck and the other two of some person i got a side shot and another where it appeared he was looking straight at the camera. I showed the photos to my father inlaw who owns the 200 acres next to my 300 and this guy turned out to be our neighbor who had no pernmission to hunt we called the law and the guy was charged with tresspassing and destruction of private property since he cut a section out of my fence on the back side of the property he had to pay me $500 restitution and he was fined another $200 and got 2 years probation. luckily I didnt have any cows on the property at that time.

RE: my stand is gone
Hope you catch who it is ......if its a lock on stand ......next year take your climbing sticks down that way they have to take a climber or something in there to steal it. Thats what we used to do I had 4-15ft ladderstands taken about 5 years ago....NOW THAT SUCKED!

RE: my stand is gone
i cant stand a thief or poacher there better off steering cleer of me it makes my blood boil i work hard for my money i cant go blowing a few hundred bucks every year for a new stand most of my gear is used so i can get quality stuff at a price i can afford it burns me up when some but head is steeling stuff so he dont have to buy it with his own money we consider theives varmits there fair game around here

RE: my stand is gone
there fair game around here |
RE: my stand is gone
I understand your pain as I had 2 stands stolen this past year. Both my stands were locked to the tree with a chain and the steps had been removed. Sadly, if someone really wants it, they will steal it. I plan to use my climber more this year.

RE: my stand is gone
I know it's gone now but I've found the best stand lock and use them on all my hang-ons.
http://www.hunting-fishing-gear.com/...play/1179.html Once the screw is set into the tree and the lock is locked there is no way to cut it. I suppose someone could still destroy the stand but they won't be taking it home without a chainsaw. I use these in conjunction with removeable ezy-climb steps to secure my stands. It cost a bit more but when I show up at 5:00am I know my stand will be where I left it. I'm not blaming you by any stretch of the imagination but I personally came across 4 stands that had been left out over the course of the year. People are in the woods, Unhonest people are in the woods and a year is a long time for a stand to stay put without a vigilante. |
RE: my stand is gone
2 years ago had 2 Ol Man 16 foot ladders, and 2 Ol Man climbers stolen from the same property. To this day I believe the person I was hunting with took them because I have hardly seen him since then an we cannot hunt that property anymore:eek:

RE: my stand is gone
i have never had any stands stolen, although I did have speakers stolen from my vehicle in high school, one of the worst feelings ever when someone steals something from you.
|
RE: my stand is gone
Last year me and my buddy had our ladder stands stolen, 200 yrds from eachother. They were both locked up, but they got em both. We were hunting near a property line, and on the other side of the fence you could see where they stopped there truck and came across. I was so pissed. These guys were on leased land, we were on our own. If I ever see someone near my stand looking suspisious, its on. I will ask questions later. Im sick of these types of people, just wish I could catch em in the act, one time.

RE: my stand is gone

RE: my stand is gone
Just when you think you can trust people, you got somthing like that happen to you. Sorry about that. Too bad we don't live in a world where we can leave our stands unlocked and unattended for long periods.

RE: my stand is gone
I hunt on public federal land here in New Jersey. I've hunted the general area for the past 8 years with archery, muzzleloader, and shotgun. Last year a few days after the regular shotgun season ended, I was walking to my stand in pre-dawn darkness for the one day permit either sex hunt. I get to my tree, and my stand is gone. I had it buried in a heavy gauge plastic garbage bag, and had pine branches on top of it. Well for whatever reason I walked to where I gutted a black bear I harvested a week earlier, and there I find my stand, in the bag with the branches on top of them. So I climb my tree, about 7:20am I see a hunter walking towards me, but he doesnt see me at all, he walkes to the spot where I found my treestand, he looks around with a puzzled face, then he sees me. Walks over and says to me "THATS MY STAND, CLIMB DOWN AND GIVE IT BACK, AND I WONT CALL THE GAME WARDEN!!!" Well Iam laughing to myself, so I climb down, undo my jacket, go into my knappsack and pull out my wallet that has my badge in it. Guys if you could only see hes face reaction I just wanted to laugh!!!! He still claims the stand is his. I order him to show me both his hunting license and and ID which he does. Little does he know, I engraved my name on the metal under the foam padding arm rest. So from there I called the local game wardens with his info, they picked up an hour later, he was arrested for stolen property, and crimes on federal property. Went to court, this guy has a family to take care of so a fine would not do any good in my eyes, so asked the judge and he agreed to ban his NJ license for 5 years. We have enough problems with the anti-gun,,anti-hunters, we need to stick together.

RE: my stand is gone
I wish I could be a game warden just to do something like that. Glad you got your stand back.
I dont care who you are, THATS FUNNY RIGHT THERE! ![]() |
RE: my stand is gone
I've had a bunch of stands stolen over the past few years or so. Some here locally by my house, others way out in the middle of nowhere on private property. Ladder stands, fixed position stands, climbing sticks, tree steps, you name it and I've had it stolen.
I still leave stands up for extended periods of time in a new spot out in the middle of nowhere where I haven't had problems with theft yet. I lock up my good API, but my cheapo Gorilla stands are unlocked. Close to home here in the 'burbs I lock all my stands that I leave up for extended periods of time, which amounts to all of 2 stands anymore. My two Lone Wolf stands go in and out of the woods with me if I'm going to be gone for more than one night - i.e if I hunt that night and plan on coming back in the morning, I leave it. They never get left alone in the daylight - they're too expensive for that. It sucks that you have to do it, but some people are just bass-turds. |
RE: my stand is gone
Never had a stand stolen but Ive had feeders stolen[:@]
|
RE: my stand is gone
Did you report the theft? Might not do any good but at least there would be a report and if they show up they know who to call. Always mark them if you can. If you catch the puke, kick him once for me!
|
RE: my stand is gone
i havent lost one yet, but my friend had his ladder stand stolen on his own propery. i use 1/2" coiled cable locks, the kind that mount to the frame of a bicycle. that way, they are always mounted to my stand. i suppose it is no match for a set of bolt cutters, but i rarely leave them for extended periods

RE: my stand is gone
As I stated on another post, I had a stand stolen on private property. I got it back undamaged and left the idiot undamaged as a result. He went over to climb my tree and found the bottom 7' of tree steps gone (I always do this). So, really pi$$ed off, he went home for a ladder. When he climbed the tree he found a heavy chain and lock...making him even more bitter. He went home, got his chainsaw and cut down the tree!!!! Just goes to show you that if someone wants it, they'll get it.
