WHO'S YOUR HUNTING BUDDY?

My hunting buddy is my uncle Tony........he is my step-dad's brother. Ya see, my dad died when i was only 8yrs old and i can hardly remember him. When my mother re-married, his brother like to hunt and when i was like 10 he got me into hunting. He said if i got a certain score on my hunters educ. test he would pay for my liscense and tag. When i was 12 he gave me my first shot-gun an 870 rem express, and i use it for everything till this day. We have shared so many great moments in the woods together, and now that i am 25yrs old we spend alot more off time together than we use to, we use to just see each other during the hunting seaason. Now that he is getting older, i listen more to what he says, and i would say he has taught me everything i know about hunting, and he still teaches me things..........he is my true hunting buddy.

RE: WHO'S YOUR HUNTING BUDDY?

Awesome thread Turkey Fan! And great story!

My hunting buddy is my dad. He has taught me so much about hunting, fishing, and the oudoors. Not to mention life in general. He bought me my first gun at 7 yrs old. It's a Stevens pump action .410 that I still have to this day. I have taken soooo much game with that little shotgun. I would never get rid of that gun, even if someone offered an obscene amount of money because it's priceless to me. I have so many good memories of being at deer camp and taking my first deer. Duck hunging, dove hunting, rabbits, squirels, fishing for speckled trout and flounder. You name it.

After I became an adult we didn't get to hunt and fish together as much for about 5 years. Then 6 years ago I got an opportunity to join the deer lease he was on and I jumped on it! I hope to have many more years hunting with my dad because there's nothing like it in the world. Some of the best memories I have are with a gun or fishing rod in my hand with my dad by my side. I hope to be my son's hunting buddy some day to teach him the same things my dad taught me.

RE: WHO'S YOUR HUNTING BUDDY?

My hunting buddy is my son. This year he is 4, but hunted with me last year. We were able to take a small 4 pointer that normally I would have let walk, however because he was with me we took him. He was SO excited and helped load it, clean it, and cut it up. He's hooked now and is getting very excited about deer season already.
I am very lucky. My wife will also be hunting with me this year which is just awesome.

Wanna get by shopping at BassPro and Cabelas all the time?? Get your wife to hunt and see what all she buys. Then they understand!:D

RE: WHO'S YOUR HUNTING BUDDY?

I'd like to say my son, but the truth is my hunting buddy is my Dad. My boy likes to go but doesn't care to talk about or think about hunting all that much. My Dad , on the other hand, lives and breathes hunting, like me. So that is my final answer, my Dad.

My hunting buddy is my husband. He bow hunts and I rifle hunt, but we do alot of scouting together. During his season, I do alot of calling for him, and he comes up on the weekends during my season and does the same for me. We both completely understand each other's methods and tactics, so we're able to be real assets to each other. It's the perfect match!:D

RE: WHO'S YOUR HUNTING BUDDY?

during the bow season my hunting partners are firstly my 15 yr old daughter she has been hunting with me the last 2 years, and then my very best friend he is 70+ yrs old and was 1 of the very first bow hunters here in mich, his name is moe and i have learned a wealth of info from this man a few of you here met him at sunsets get together and kevin1 had the honor to shoot a few rounds with him ,, then during gun season my partner is my wife, when we first got together 8 yrs ago it was right before bow season , she said to me that she always wanted to deer hunt well it didnt take long for her to get her hunters ed classes done an the first year she hunted with me she was 8 months pregnant,, her family was all against her hunting an they still are but she goes every year now and it seems its the only time her and i get any alone time from the kids an the everyday worries wouldnt trade my hunting partners for anything

My hunting buddy is my best friend of 20 years. We hunt as much as possible together here in VA. I also hunt with about 13 others on every saturday of gun season. I took my 7 yr old daughter last year for the first time and now she can't wait to get out there again. I guess I will have a new hunting buddy in the very near future.

My Dad was my first, or should I say I was his Hunting Buddy. He's the one that got me into the sport that we love so much. He's not with us anymore but his contribution lives on with myself and my three sons. Soooo, they are my hunting buddies (as well as my best friends) along with 2-3 other close friends. I also have 2 grandsons (6 and 10) who will soon be included in our special group.

RE: WHO'S YOUR HUNTING BUDDY?

Well, I can't sit with my dad. Drives me crazy. My oldest daughter is just 2 1/2 yo, so MAYBE this year she can sit with me. My best hunting buddy would have to be my wife. She sits quiet as a mouse and as long as she has her glasses on, she has good eyes. Could be sometimes we don't get much hunting done, especially in years past when we were just dating. One time she took some cross-stitch work up in the tower stand with us. I'm watching for deer and she is sewing away until OW! she accidently poked me! Hunting in South Texas, yellow jackets and wasps are a major concern, so that was my first thought.

But ususally, hunting is a solitary thing for me. I like having lots of folks back at camp and a trip would not be complete without Aunt Bev's cookin and Junior fixin everyones jeep everyweekend. Me, I just drive my good ol truck. It's kinda funny to see the line behind his monsterous mechanic's truck(he's my company's shop foreman) but as long as he gets to hunt, he don't mind. We've knocked down plenty of whiskey sittin around the fire after dark and moped out to our stands with hangovers the next morning. . .

My hunting buddy would have to be my best friend,Curt. We have known each other for thirteen years now. The only problem is while hunting, he's as graceful as an elephant in a china shop! Two years back, I took him hunting with me down to the mountains. I'm used to hunting there alone, so I had about 25 yards between us as we sneaked through the trees. I would hear a brach break or somthing, then Curt would come walking up as I was listening. Crunch, crunch, crunch, "What's up?" He would walk through the loudest snow, step on every branch, and shout at the top of his lungs! We never shot nothing that day, but I still laugh to myself about that trip! Even though he denies ever being that loud! Oh well, good hunting buddies are hard to come by. You can't live with em', and you can't shhot em' either!:D

sounds like me an my hunting buddy weve been hunting together for 10 years I'm a hard right conservative and hes a middle of the road southern democrat. the funny thing is we agree on alot of things just I cant understand why he votes democrat when his views are pretty conservative. all I can figure is its tradition in his family they always voted democrat.

I lost my Best Hunting Buddy, my Dad, 30 years ago. Shortly after, I started hunting with a Navy bud, and we've been hunting together ever since. We hunt together every year. Guess I'll probably quit hunting when he goes, things just won't be the same.

My Brother-in-law. When I first started dating my wife, we went to her sisters house for dinner. then in walks her brother all decked out in camo, and asked me to help him track a deer he just shot. Well to make a long story short, I help him and LOVED it. The next morning, I was in a stand just to watch deer. After I saw my first buck, I was hooked. Bought my first deer gun the next day. My wife sometimes "thanks" her brother for introducing me to hunting!!!!

RE: WHO'S YOUR HUNTING BUDDY?

Honest..... I don't have a "hunting buddy". [&o]

I have plenty of friends and buddies and such, but they don't hunt. My best friend (fishing buddy) is an ex-hunter. Don't get me wrong... he's not an ANTI or anything, he just had an "incident" years ago in the woods. He and some other guy ended up in a crossfire zone from other hunters not watching what they were doing. To this very day, my buddy can still recall "hearing" the 30.06 round whizz by his head! [&:] That was it. The next day, he hocked all his gear. Everything. Done. Never again.... [:o]

I am a late bloomer at 43 yrs old and this will mark the start of my 3rd year hunting. My dad and uncle hunted years and years ago when I was real little. But when I came of age and was ready to go, they had since given it up.

It would have to be my dad, He is very knowledgeable, and its always fun to outdo him. I know hes proud when I do, but I can see he wants to show me up at the same time. Its kind of a friendly competition, with an unspoken bond.

This is a great topic! I'm glad to hear so many say 'my Dad" because I'm hoping my 2 sons who are 15 and 7 will follow my love for the outdoors because my father never did. My 15 year old started bow hunting last year and loves it, hopefully I can keep his nose away from the video games long enough to bag one.

My 2 hunting buddies have been friends for 20+ years. We have had some great camp memories and even killed a few deer along the way. They finally got me into bow hunting in 1999 and now I love it more than shotgun and wish I would have started way back when they did.

Good luck to all this year!
