if you mean shoot a record book buck i would say that i have a good chance as long as the wind is in my favor and i hunt hard i can do it.

RE: what are the chances?

probably slim and none. the places i hunt do not produce trophy deer and i am really not that interested in taking one. i hunt for the fun of it, normally take a couple of deer each season for eating purposes and just enjoy the day out or the company i have.

I live in ohio and chances are med but if I took it I may not have it scored to be put in the book ,I don't want the BS and don't need to stroke my ego. I have seen several that would have easly made P&Y or B&C and the shooters didn't want it either ,one guy has 3 racks sitting on a shelf.

pretty good in my stae as a whole, but slim to none in my area of the state [:@]

On second thought, actually theres alot of P&Y bucks in my area, just you dont see alot of them, so maybe a better chance than slim to none. :)

Depends what you mean by record deer, the next world record..well I think it could come almost anywhere but I do live 1 hour from where the current record holder was taken by Milo Hansen. I also hunt an hour where last fall a 16 year old arrowed the number 2 typical P&Y deer. So yes I think I could live in an area where I may see the next record.

Now if your talking about making B&C book then I definately feel confident in my area for connecting with a book whitetail & mule deer, you betcha!

RE: what are the chances?

I have likely seen 2 deer that would qualify for B&C. Unfortunately it was not during hunting season. My uncle saw one last year that would likely net over 180. There are quite a few big deer around the area, but they aren't easy to get. Poachers/road hunters keep them fairly nocturnal and the large forested areas and swamps provide lotsa cover.

The land I hunt on has huge rubs on 3" (or larger) diameter trees every year, -some that start at about ankle or knee height on the tree, and go to my neck height on the tree (I am 5'9"). However in 3 years of hunting the area I haven't caught a glimpse of more than the huge rubs and large tracks. A buck scoring around 150 and weighing close to 300 pounds was shot on this property 3 or 4 years ago. A neighbours son told me he saw a monster buck on the alfafla field on this property that he says is much bigger and certainly a lot wider than a 172 net typical deer shot in the area 15 years ago (we have both seen the mount, so I asked him to compare it to that deer). I have scouted extensively this summer and have got a much better grasp on the area. Hopefully my luck changes in November and I at least see the big one!

A 194 typical was shot last fall about 15-20 miles from where hunt. 4 non-typicals scoring over 190 have been shot within 15 miles of here in the last 12 years.

well, how often do u hunt, are you a good shot, do u get fidgety easy? do u see alot of deer around where you hunt? have you taken any large deer before?? plus u could just be very unlucky and never even see a deer that size OUT of deer season, its all a roll of dice, a flip of a coin, it could come out any way it wants to, but good luck;)

RE: what are the chances?

I have had only one deer head mounted in my life, and i have been hunting for 50 years. mounted a ten pointer that i shot with a bow, figured it was the biggest one i would ever get. was it skill or luck that got this deer, you tell me. i scouted, found a good scrape row and set up on it. ten minutes after i was in the stand the deer came by and i shot it, was back out of the woods by 8 in the morning. would like to think there was a lot of luck involved with this one. anyways, it no longer hangs, took the mount apart, gave the rack to my brother and it is hanging in his shed.
