I'd say a Remington 870 12 ga and put a good scope in it. But it really depends on what type of gun you want and hown much you are willing to spend.

Is that a rifle state / area or slug or buck shot?

Cody, since you said "caliber", that tells me you are looking for a rifle. For your age, I would suggest either a .243 or 7mm-08. Either one would carry you into adulthood and both have quite a bit less recoil than most shotguns. Johnch, Arkansas allows rifle and shotgun w/slugs or buckshot in most of the state. I say most, because the deer zone I live in here in N.E. Ark. is not open to modern gun (rifle). Only archery and two or three weekends with shotguns w/slugs only or muzzleloader.

You might throw a 25-06, 257 Roberts or 270 into the list of calibers you consider.

Not knowing how big you are it is kind of hard to tell, one of the guys I shoot with has a 12 year old that is 5'10" or 5'11".

I would think that a .270 would work best as it is light enough not to "kill" you, but it can handle a lot and would last you a long time.

The 260 rem. is a nice caliber. My wife uses one for coyote, and she loves it. and it would be plenty for deer. Good luck and good hunting.

A .270 is all and all probably the best choice for deer.

Great ammo selection and availability.
Low recoil.
Huge variety of guns are offered in .270.
Great ballistics.

Great choice!!!
