Welcome to the boards emery, you'll like it here.
As for muzzleloaders I can't be much help except to suggest that you post this question in the "Guns" forum, thats where the guys who know everything hang out.
Good luck

I would need to know if you have any requirements....like you want tradidtional only....or you want in-line only..
I have some very affordable ideas for you once I know about your requirements. Get back here with requirements and your budget and myself and many others will give you lots of ideas to use to start your shopping. Good time to buy right now too! Many end of year models available both new and used.

bass-pro has a sale on CVA mag-bolt 150 in 45 cal.you get every thing you need to shoot except powder.
I have two of these rifles and they are a good gun for the money.
you get gun, scope, bullets, wrench, cleaner, brushes, and the kit to change from caps to 209 primers or musket caps. all for $199.99
hope this helps.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

Emery welcome to the board first, I just bought my first smokepole, I did a lot of reading on them and read the blackpowder forum quit a bit. If they are legal I would go with an inline and shoot sabots using pyrodex. From everything I have read one of the most important things shooting blackpowder is keeping the gun clean, it is also difficult to clean properly unless it is an inline. I bought a Knight LK-93 50 cal. I did a good bit of research on inlines and for the dollar a Knight would be hard to beat, do not get me wrong there are other affordable inlines out there, but from what I have heard and read a Knight is the way to go if you don't have a ton of money.

I use to hunt with a copy of a Kentucy rifle I made. 45 cal., muzzle load, with open sights. Now a days I wouldnt waste the money on a Black powder. My friend bought a new one which is breach load with a scope and with the new pellet powders it kinda defeats the purpose. The thing is like shooting a regular rifle. The only thing that would make it worth while is being able to start rifle season earlier than most normal rifles. I like to spend that time bow hunting .
