I don't have a favorite but I have used my 338 win mag and 7mm mag. I hope to get one with my 270 weatherby mag this year too. But I will also be using my 445 supermag Dan Wesson this year in pa as well. I hope to take a couple does and a buck in pa this year.

I use my father's (now mine) .308 Remington Semi. Excellent shooting even thirty years later and plenty of stories to tell.

Remington 12ga 870 with rifled barrel and Winchester Supreme 1oz sabots out to ~75 yards (open sights).

30-06 for anything else. I don't use the `06 much though.

RE: what caliber do you use

I'v used a couple different calibres for deer thru the years. 30/30, 7mm08, 45/70 & 44 mag. All from lever actions. If I had to pick a favorite I guess it would be the 30/30. I live & hunt in the north east & long shots dont happen much so the 30/30 fits the bill for me pretty well. That being said I like trying different calibres just because I like trying different calibres. :D Brought the 45/70 last year with hard cast cowboy loads, but the whitetail god saw fit to leave me high & dry for gun season :(. Falls coming tho & that Marlin Guide Gun is wanting another try I think. :)

I am not experienced enough to really be commenting on a variety of calibers. However, I have always had luck with my 35 Remington so that would be my "vote".

.30-06 and .44mag. Thinking of getting a .243 or 7mm-08 for next year. I never have been real fond of a small caliber, although I really don't know why.

I got a 25-06 sako rifle and it is absolutley incredible, it will take down any deer with little recoil and it is very accurate.

i usually reach for my remington 7400 30-06 with a bushnell 3x9x40 and usually behind that is a mossberg 500 12 gauge slug gun with a fully rifled & ported barrel and a tasco red dot scope or a marlin 336w 30-30

I use a .30-06 right now for everything, as well as my .50 ML. I have a .223 for varmints. I will get a .260 Remington this fall though for deer and antelpe, and such and then use the .30-06 for elk and black bear and such. I have a fistula in my right arm from dialysis, so my shoulder can't take mcuh recoil. I am left handed but right eye dominant.

Remington, .270. Not to much kick, flat shooting and can drill tacks. I hunt anywhere from point blank to 200 yards, the longest shot i had so far was 140, and i put it right where i was aiming, no problem. I am goin out to colorado elk hunting high in the mountains and i have no problem with bringing it.

Win m88 .308 for rifle season, Mossberg 500 12 guage with slugs for shotgun season, .45 Kentucky rifle with round balls for muzzleloader season, and a Browning Fusion compound for bow season.

I have used all kinds of guns in all different calibers, but I just love my .270's. I have used them from 10 yards out to 400 yards. It shoots flater than a 30-06 and has plenty of knock down when it gets there without any dout it would be a .270.

I use a Remington semi-auto .30-06 that was my wife's grandfathers. I've used it for about 15 years now and it performs great. It is also a cherished reminder of a great hunter from yesterdays generation.

jaybird2: Tell me about your 308 - what do you like about the 308 in particular? I'm thinking about getting one in a weatherby svm, but I'm weighing that against a 25-06/243 possibility in either a ruger vt or winchester sporter.

My confidence gun is my trusty Remington 7600 Gamemaster, .30-06, pump action. It is topped with a Bushnell Elite scope with rainguard.

One well placed shot and my deer is down for keeps. I don't usually shoot at full out running deer, so meat damage from my 180gr. bullet is not an issue. It works well in the area that I hunt here in Ontario, which is a mixture of hardwood and cedar swamps. ;)

(Made the mistake of selling my Model 94 30-30 a few years back. Still miss that gun.) Just got a .220 swift, but don't expect to ever use that for deer.
