You'll have to excuse the trash in that one shot, I've been ebaying some stuff off and my reloading/gun/place to put anything down that I don't feel like putting up room is in a major state of disarray.

Not to say he didn't have one, but we couldn't find one. We chunked the entire deer out for jerky, except for the front shoulders which were completely smashed by my shot from my 300 Ultra Mag, it was extremely gusty that day and I knew he was there so the 270 stayed at home.

The neck is 28", measured from about 1.5" up from the flat of the back.

The neck is 28", measured from about 1.5" up from the flat of the back.
The normal way to measure a neck is at the base of the skull, right behind the ears, along the smallest diameter. This is how most forms are ordered, and gives the best representation of the cape size.

Using that method it is 23.5".

Thanks for the info.

I'm not a taxidermist and I wasn't present for the measuring, I had been gone from home for about 6 weeks at that point and I had some "homework" to do.

This was my first shoulder mount and I wasn't sure of how to measure one. Thanks again.
