Oh boy that was rich James....I can't wait for a CAbelas to open near me looks like sometime this year but I'll have to drive to Wheeling WV to see it but I will go there can't wait. The BassPro shop near me is a joke compared to Cabelas

Cabela's is one heck of an "EVIL PLACE". LOL I've probably been down to the one in Owatonna 10 times and never have left without buying something. Dang them!! I have their credit card, so that drags me down there twice a year to jump on the customer appreciation weekends. Evil I tell you :D, :D

I have spent way too much time and money at the Cabelas that opened up here in PA....especially since it is only 20 minutes away...:)

(Disclaimer- That statement above was in case my wife is watching....)

Being new to the sport and needing to "gear up" I ended up spending a ridiculous amount of money at Cabelas' last year. Trying to find hunting gear and any real winter clothing in the Los Angeles area is an exercise in frustration. Add to that my need to order several different versions or sizes of some things (boots, jackets) to see which fit best. The UPS guy made a lot of deliveries! If I had it to do over again I would've gotten a cheap ticket from LA to Kansas City and spent the weekend shopping at the Kansas City store.

I live in southern colorado and when I want something special I have to order it. Most of the sportings goods places can't afford to stock much merchandise. I went to Sidney last fall and let me tell you that place is the fountain of youth. All those years looking in a cabela's catalog and being there made me feel like a teenager with his first rifle. It was really fun to put your hands on the items that you wanted to buy but just wasn't for sure if you would like them. The closet thing to paradise besides being out in the woods.

I have been to the Gander MOuntain in Tonawanda New York and I have spent a pile of money there. They are really good stores. Their prices are very similar if not the same as Cabela's (I don't know about sale prices though...Cabela's may have them beat there). But at the end of the year, Gander Mountain put all their camo on 50% of and we had a great time. 3 of us spent over $1200 in one visit.

Hey jjt (and all of you similarly inflicted).....

I've been thinking over this 12 step process. A number of us meet once each week......have assigned "help buddies".....and are available day or night for assistance.

If you find yourself shaking uncontrollably......with sudden overwhelming feelings of guilt.......loss of control.......and the truck heading for the nearest Cabelas. STOP! Pull over to the side of the road. And call your "buddy". We can overcome this, if we work together!;)

Dave

P.S. My wife just walked out of the room. A bunch of us guys are meeting there this Saturday morning.......oh shoot....her she comes! Gotta go!:D

We must live relatively close to one another as it is only 22 minutes from my front door to the statue in front of the Hamburg store...:)

It's kind of nice living in eastern Nebraska. There is a Cabela's in Sidney, Kansas City and in Mitchell. They are all well within a 5 hour drive from here. Not bad considering I usually spend $6-700 each time I go there.

I live a little better than 1 hour from Cabellas. Try to get down there 2 or 3 times a year to "look". Found out long ago that I leave my credit cards and checkbook at home and bring only enough cash to cover what I think I may buy.

My bank has requested that I contact them 24 hours before I come in for the cash :D
