My God what a rack on that buck ! Hey if I was looking at something like that and the legal hours were "iffy" , I would be hard pressed not to shoot.

I guess that guy in the picture is not the one who shot it since there is no way he could be 54 or 74 like the 2 men charged in the case. Anyone know who that guy with the buck is?

Actually the guy is the outfitter where the two offenders were staying. And it was a lot longer than a half hour after dark. They were jack lighters, shooting deer where they had no permission to do so.

I do believe you will see a few more giants taken next fall. There are many 5 to 7 year olds in the woods up here right now. Many many stories of giants bucks seen last year. With our past winter being reasonable, I would suspect that next year will go down in history as N. W. Ont. best year for giant bucks taken. The winters control the depth of the year class up here, not hunter pressure.

The buck scored just under 200 with deductions but grossed over 200. Here's a picture of the scoresheet used. Over 10 inches circumference in one spot.

I also heard the guy in the pic was a MNR employee but the outfitter theory fits better. I'm sure the MNR wouldn't be pleased with one of their employees grinning like that!

Check out one of the past issues of "ontario out of doors". Front section on news briefs has another picture with the MNR holding the deer (he is smiling by the way). He is in uniform, as any CO would be, so the outfitter seems likely. It looks as though Mooseman48 you are local and would know better anyway.

I did hear from someone up your way that it was taken a little more than 1/2 hour after legal time however. Illegal for sure but I did not get that they were jacklighting. Is this confirmed?
