well, im looking at getting a new gun. But the hard part for me is explaining it to my mom as to why i need another deer rifle. I just keep telling her that i need to have a back up just incase something happens to the one i have right at the moment. and then she goes on and says that i already have 3 guns and i dont need another one. so i have to explain to her that my shotgun is for pheasants and my 22 is for small game and so on. But i think i finaly got her to understand why i want to get another rifle.

That's an easy one... just buy the gun you want and give it to her as a present. Having no use for it, she's almost guaranteed to re-gift it to you.
The down side to this philosophy is what are YOU going to do when she gives you a diamond ring and matching earrings? [:@]

My wife doesn't hunt but grew up in a family that hunts & shoots. She bought me a gun safe for my birthday and when she new I was interested in a gun last fall she told me leave and don't come home until I have the gun. While she does complain that I have to many guns or spend to much time reloading but she is understanding. I joke around a little with her, I think helps. I tell her that I need a gun for each window in my blind. I told her once that I loved her more than my guns but don't forget that my guns are a close second! (she laughed)

I am a lucky guy. Given a choice between a new Diamond or a new Ruger 10-22, my wife would take the Ruger. In 36 years I have never seen my wife wear or even look at a piece of jewlery.

just a suggestion from what worked for me... my girlfriend hated the idea of hunting... she thought it was ruthless and a "macho wannae" hobby. so i asked her to take a free hunters ed class. when she realized that there are ethics, and that all of us respect our game and treat it with due respect, and only shoot what we plan to consume or donate... then she ecame softer... now she even wants to take up quail and maybe turkey!!! she won't shoot anythig furry, but this is a huge start... just a suggestion...
