RE: Fav Deer Gun
This winter I plan to start a project that will turn my first deer rifle back into my favorite rifle....or at least one of 'em. I have a 1903 Steyr Mannlicher in 7 X 57. Although it still has the original military bolt, safety and trigger, it has accounted for several deer when I was younger. Its iron sights don't make it usable enough for my 50 yr old eyes anymore, even though they are nice after market express style sights with 100 yd fixed, and 200 yd and 300 yd flip ups.
I'm planning on having the bolt turned, changing out the trigger and installing a 3 position safety (if they make one for this rifle). Then drill and tap and mount a quality scope with low mounts. It is the smoothest action I own and I'm looking forward to getting it back. |
