RE: General Question

Yes. All bucks shed their antlers. Usually around January-Febuary, sometimes a little earlier, or later.

RE: General Question

To answer the second part of your question,no.Not if they can follow there natural coarse. The young are driven away just for that reason.

RE: General Question

Yes and yes!
They all lose their antlers and they can inbreed. However, it isn't usually common to find inbreeding for the reasons FLD gave!

RE: General Question

Bucks who have had testicular damage will stay in velvet and may keep one set of antlers for many years.

So in some rare instances not "all" bucks drop the bone:D;)

RE: General Question

very good rack attack. deer with "nut damage" do not shed their velvet and grow wild, unusual racks that never go outta velvet. they usually dont mate either.

they usually dont mate either

True, KoBear. But like Rack Attack said, they don't lose their bone! :D

RE: General Question

actually deer start shedding their antlers about now. So if you go to your hunting area u can find some of the shed antlers and get to know what kind of bucks youll be lookin for next year.

RE: General Question

RE: General Question

Deer will lose their horns probably 95% of the time.In the case of inbreeding:
Wild mountainous, free roaming country,it would be rare to inbreed.
Now on the other poker hand[no pun intended]:
Here it is:Take the state of New Jersey for example. The middle of the state used to be nothing but farmland 20 to 25 years ago.Now there are people moving here from N.Y. City[1 1/2hrs away],Philadelphia[right next door],some from Deleware and some from North Jersey.Which = a ton of building houses, condos, townhouses, and businesses.Which =deer being pushed around to live in these 25x25 acre lots[if their lucky].The bucks breed the does, the doe has two or three fawns, mother gets smashed by a Mercedes, or shot by a hunter in time. Now THATS when the inbreeding starts.Theese fawns make their circle from plot to plot, and we all know how a buck acts in rut when a doe in heat is around. So I would have to say 50-50 on this subject.[Whitetail right? lol]
If anybody from N.J. reads this reply,Im writing this about Burlington Co.
You would probably only agree with me after reading that anyway!!
