My wife is a better hunter than myself! She has hunted since she was a little girl with her father. Its in her blood, no doubt! We run a lease together in S.C. and if it wasn't for her help & support, It wouldn't be as successful as it is. Next to me of course, hunting is her life!

My Mom turns 70 in June and has been deer hunting for 25 years. She has no intentions of stopping. Trying to get my wife to hunt. She has sat with me in the deer stand a few times and likes it. She supports my deer hunting habit 100%.

Hey mamadoe, there are boots out there now that believe it or not will keep your feet warm in some of the coldest weather. They aren't the best things in the world to walk in though. I have some felt pack boots that are lined with a heavy felt material that keep my feet warm. You may want to buy a pair of the boot blankets and try them. If you aren't comfortable you can't hunt well.

Adui13, It really depends on her mindset, that is everything. Has she ever been hunting with you before, helped to butcher, seen a deer field dressed?? That could make a huge difference as to how she might handle herself. Take her with you at first, let her feel like she is part of a team effort. From your post she already loves and respects Whitetails. When, and if she is ready to actually take an animal herself. both her, and you will know it. I wish you both the Best of Luck!! Once it gets in your blood......dang hard to get it out. :)
I feel sure that any of the ladies on this board would be more than happy to talk with her if she would like to email one of us. Good Luck to you both.

Emil, Welcome to the board!! Great Pictures too!

Mamadoe, I have a problem with my feet getting cold also. It can make for a very uncomfortable day in the stand. But then, I am one that will stay out from first light til dark if I have the chance. Go figure...lol Doug gave some good advice. I have also found that a good pair of wicking socks, then a pair of wool outer socks helps a great deal. Get some good boots for next season....there are some good deals going on now. And Good Luck with Bow Season next year!!

Dang, we have awhile to wait don't we people.
But, Turkey season is right around the corner.

Greets,
Thanks Christine B, I will take her out this year, if she wants, ( which she most likely will ). Hopefully she will enjoy the hunt as much as she enjoys shooting. Either way, I think if I properly approach it she will ahve a good time.
One thing though, Only whitetails here are Columbian Whitetails, we cant shoot em. We hunt the black tails and mulies here *G*. Would love to go some where with whitetails to hunt sometime, but the local deer are probably just as fun, I know they are at least as elusive!

Just my uneducated opinion!

TAZ: "but in 2-3 years my twins will start hunting, right now they are ******s."

I have a pair of daughters 7 and 8 years old that are destined to be trained laser rangefinder/binocular operators for their old Dad until old enough to heft a .243 at the legal 12 years of age required by Nebraska! ;-)

Mark actually me calling my twins ******s is not totally true, I take them one at a time and we have worked out hand signals to allow them to be an extra set of eyes. They have signals for buck or doe, walking, running, and direction. They did amazingly well for 9 year olds this year. They were quiet all the way in and out. One of them got to hear me talk to the deer when it had gotten to dark and we were leaving the stand. Just as we hit the bottom of the ladder we heard a deer blow in the brush up wind of us. Well I hand signaled her to be still, I blew a doe bleat than motioned for her to run beside me, we ran about 15 feet and stopped. We could hear the deer take a few rapid steps in our direction and then blow again. I bleated again and we trotted another 15-20 feet and froze, once again the deer took a few rapid steps in our direction and then blew again, we continued this until we hit the edge of the field and then quickly trotted to the truck. When we got in she was ecstatic, her eyes were wide with excitement, she said "Dad we were talking to a deer!" Man it is all worth the extra bit of effort to see that look in your childs eyes. TAKE YOUR KIDS HUNTING!

Has she ever seen the deer you bring home?
If that doesn't bother her then give her a chance. If she really wants to hunt the thrill of getting one on her own my be enough to get her into it.I went hunting with my husband several times before i got up the guts to shot one.But once i did the excitment took over and now i want go.
