This is how I do it in the Big Woods! As soon as the snow is gone and that won't be until April-May, there is a window before spring green up and that's when I hit it hard - real hard. Don't care where I walk, I put on the miles. I look for the "blue print" from last fall. All the tell tale signs the deer left last year are all real visibible. I then stay away in the summer and fall. First time I go back is opener of Bow. Good Luck!

I scout a lot while spring turkey hunting in March through May. I'll go out a few other times in the summer and then I start setting up my stands for that season in August and September.

Mainly just rubs and big tracks are the best indicators. Next fall the acorn crop probably will not be as good so the patterns will not be the same.

All deer hunting is over now here in Delaware. I'll be going out to scout tomorrow. Basically checking the thickest cover that I can find and look for BIG tracks and rubs and scrapes left from this past fall. I'll normally scout once or twice a week until the woods starts to turn green. By then the farmers are starting to plant their crops and depending on where I found the most sign, I will scout the fields that are nearby from a distance once the crops are coming up. Then determine where to setup to bowhunt sometime in august. Our bow season begins around sept. 1st. Hunting never ends!!!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Greets,
every time I am in the woods I am scouting. I Go small game hunting, and this year started coyote hunting. I also go out just shooting. But each time I spend some time hiking and scouting, just checking the area for sign so I can learn a bit more about those elusive bucks!! I even scout during the season, when I am not sitting in a blind I have made, usually from brush at hand, I am moving and looking.

Just my uneducated opinion!

i live a good couple hours from mine, but take the time to run the hills at least a few times a year. browsing and walking in the late winter early spring, brush cutting/trimming in the summer, and finalizing early fall. the rest of the trips are just mearly walking around checking stuff out.
