well i lied i will post on this one more time, never heard of shooting a deer in a 5 acre pen, thats a little ridiculous, no i just feel like fenced ranches get a bad name and i think alot of the ranches people dont know what they need to before stating the facts, no harm intended i just get offensive when someone says i killed a canned deer, i say BS, not what it appears, later and good huntn

Charlie you ole chicken choker, you made me remember on of my dream hunts........................... It was 20 minutes before sunrise, slowly I unlocked the gate and slid in....... Oh man did I blow the whole hunt? The gate creaked as I swung it shut!!!! I quietly eased my way over to the blind, I pushed the button and soon the elevator arrived.....man there is no way that I will get that bruiser now, the elavator door squeaked when it opened!!! The maintenance guy is toast. The door opens into the blind, I step in and turn on the news and settle into the shooting chair and wait for the sun to rise.

Man it must be close to 10 degrees, I sure hope that buck isn't cold, I turn up the blind thermostat a hair and watch the sunrise over the distant fence. Ah yes.... the great outdoors! Ah man I got to hit the head!!!! I enter the bathroom and releive myself, I make sure I save the flush for after the kill, don't want to spook the buck ya know.

Man I hate the wait! That feeder doesn't kick on for another 10 minutes, oh well that is all part of the hunt I guess. Just then the stock market report comes on TV I notice the feeder has kicked in!!! Quickly I grab the remote and mute the TV and slide open the window overlooking the feeder! Oh yea, my scouting has paid off, here he comes.....man this is ridiculous, they need to adjust that feeder to give me a better broadside shot... how in the world can someone be expected to hunt under these conditions!!!

Finally he turns broadside...slowly I settle the crosshairs right behind his shoulder, I check the windspeed and direction and adjust my scope for a 10 mph wind out of the west for a 25 yard shot..... I slowly squeeze the trigger....BOOM!!!!! He drops like a ton of lead bricks as the Weatherby barks! I settle back in the easy chair and fire up a cuban as the boys fire up the ATV and field dress the 195 buck, and trust me he had better measure up or I will be canning someone over this. Ah yes another one to put up in my office to show off my manhood.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!! That is without a doubt the funniest thing I've read. Well sounds like a little rough start to your hunt Taz, but congrats on your kill. Hope to see some pics soon.

You don't have electric gates? What kind of camp was that? I'm appalled.

Trophy I am not sure if the cuban was legal or not, Fidel gave me a case the last time I was down there to see him! Trophy I am very aware that the reputable high fenced hunts are not canned, I would not turn down a hunt on a large one as long as I didn't have to pay for it, nor would I turn down a guided moose or elk hunt as long as it was free.

NYB you will be able to see footage of the kill on my new outdoor channel show "Taz's Great Outdoors the Way it Should Be!!" In the show we cover some of the lesser known facts of hunting such as how to silence the AC on the Limo and what wine is proper after an afternoon kill!

Taz-

Actually, I've hunted the 'burbs for the past few years outside of Baltimore, since I moved down here. I stopped this past season because it just wasn't what I was looking for in a hunt. The population density of deer is incredible, and I would see deer every time. I never meant to imply that there weren't deer around here, or that there weren't big ones either. There certainly are. But there are so many deer in such a small place that it didn't feel like any other hunt I've been on in other states. Granted that's not many other places, but I am fortunate that I've been able to hunt some other areas. I've literally had 50 deer run by my stand one day last year. At least in the specific area I'm talking about, it's shooting - not hunting. I'll stick to other areas from now on, because I'm looking for more than just a shooting opportunity. As a side note, I've been fortunate to meet a guy off this board who invited me to go to his farm in Western MD - thanks again!

Now, since I'm fairly new around here - do you hunt other areas/other states? I'm simply saying that fences and development are both man-made barriers for deer - the fence just has a specific purpose.

Ah Master Choker you made my venison jerky suck into my sinus with that one.

If you run out of Cubans let me know I'm a Dominican, have a box of Cohiba's coming for christmas.

GRIZZ, How is a development a barrier?

How's this sound there's a WMA near here that's about 10,000 acres with a state park near by where we can rent some cabins. We'll all sit around the camp fire drink some beer some smoke a few cigars and hit some deer with kegs. How's that sound.

See now that's the mark of a true hunter. How in the world did you overcome those elements and end up with a succesful hunt? I think you may want to talk to somebody about reprogramming that electric feeder so you're not out there in the elements as long. Turn it back 15 minutes. My wife is an office manager at a furniture, if you want to upgrade the comfort level of your chair, we can get you the newest reclining model equiped with all the luxuries you would possibly need for a tough day in the woods.

farmcntry the noise was created by the lock, we have hydrolic gates we have found them to be quieter than electric gates, the reason this hunt was a true challenge was because our keypad entry broke so I had to unlock the padlock to gain access to the controler for the hydrolic gates.
