Default Binocular Question

What would you recommend as a good all round binocular power rating for turkey and deer hunting? I know 10x50 is a pretty good standard, and maybe enough, but I am looking at options. A friend who is a great lifelong hunter just bought an expensive set of Steiner Nighthunters in 12x56 power. He says the extra power is important when trying to evaluate the difference between a shooter and non-shooter since he has strict horn rules.

I have a set of 8x42 and they work pretty well, but maybe he is right. Any thoughts?

the higher the power the more shake you get, then you have to have something to hold them on to see.10x50 are good all around power.
try your friends and your and see how you like them.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

I use 10x40 ziess binoculars.Ten power is about the most I can hold without shaking too much.Due to the quality of the ziess lenses and coatings my 40 mm binoculars are brighter than the cheaper 50 mm binoculars as well as being lighter and more compact.

Ditto on the shaking thing. I've got a pair of Pentax 10x which I really like. If you get a chance, take the ones you are considering outside to get them away from fluorescent lites.

I use two sets, a Nikon 10x50, and Minolta 9x30 minis. That and a Buschnel 12-36 spotter, and I am set for any terrain I want to hunt or look at. By the way, the Nikon... the BEST investment I have EVER made. Sure better than my stock portfolio

I have a nikon sporter 1. I have been very happy with it. A great bino. for the money, very bright, and very clear early morning and late evening. Not to heavy and plenty of power.
