RE: I' m looking for statistics about the rise or decline in hunters
I attended a meeting of hunters and land owners in Pierre SD. This was one subject discussed. They give several reasons for a decline in permit sales over the last few years. The aging population, Older people stop hunting before the quit fish and other sports because of the rigors of hunting. The divorce rate has more children growing up raised by thier mothers. Women are less apt to introduce thier children to guns and hunting. The price of hunting lease lands has priced many hunters out of the sport. Loss of Habitat due to increase population has cost lost acres open for hunting. Activities by anti hunters was not mentioned as a cause but I believe that hunting is less politically correct than it was when hunting was a way of life rather that a sport.

Jackie, each state has a website that has a section on hunting... check it out it may help. The US government also has a statistics page, I can' t recall the URL but it is there for you to find VIA hotbot, google, etc. Floridas website gives a breakdown of hunting licenses sold, archery permits sold, etc.

I think that the urbanization of America has a lot to do with the decline in hunting and other outdoor sports. Also, time demand either from work or family is a huge strain on a lot of people which leads to less time being spent on ones hobbies.
