RE: How do bucks release their scent?
Deer release scent through several different ways.
1. They use their urine by doing just as thundermug elequently put it. They urinate on glands located on the inside of their legs. These glands are call Tarsal Glands.
2. They also have glands that release scent that located in between their hooves, just at the base of their antlers and glands just over their eyes.
Judging a deers size by the tracks is fairly easy. Most of the time an adult deer in the south will make a three to four inch track. Northern deer generally make a larger track because the deer them selves are so much bigger. I good way to judge a deers body weight is looking at the depth of the track in the soil. Now take into consideration that if the ground is wet the track will be deeper.
Good luck.
