Going Bathroom In Woods?

when going to the bathroom in the woods, do the deer pick up on the scent or not?

Where you eatting chili the night before? hehe.

Yep, deer can smell your " waste" , but I don' t think it' s a factor in hunting. I' ve watched deer walk right by places that I have wet before, and they never batted an eyelash at it, I' ve also had them go right up to it and smell it. Sometimes I pee right into a scrape I' m watching, and the next day it was all dug up again.

With all of the smells us stinky humans have, that would be the least of my worries.

If your find that urinating around your spot does spook the deer by chance, you can buy pouches that absorb the liquid and forms a non-leaking gel. The pouch seals up and can be thrown in the trash.

For the life of me, I can' t think of the brand name. I just did a search at cabelas.com and came up with nothing. I' m at work, so I don' t have too much time to look. If anyone else knows what I' m talking about, please enlighten us.

Snapple bottles seem to hold the right amount for a full day afield.

Aught Six (and everybody else :D) -

I have a few of those pee-in-the-bag deals. They' re called Brief Relief (" The Portable Pit Stop" ). I picked them up on Ebay for about a buck apiece (plus shipping and handling, of course). They work exactly as you said.

I usally just urinate on the insides of my ankles. You know theres a sent gland there that when mixed with urine. Gives off the sent of a female musk Ox in heat.

Sorry Guys, I just couldn' t resist!

I just go. For number two I carry toilet paper in my bag. I like to find a small tree about the size of a baseball bat, enough for support and on a little slope. Then just grapple the tree and lean back to the lower ground and letter' rip. No catching on the pants. Then just wipe and cover the tp and number 2 with leaves so nothing is showing, then put a few sticks on top of the leaves for extra security.

sorry, there is no way I' m carrying my piss around with me while I hunt. Maybe I' m just scared since I' m a bit of a clutz and would' t want to fall and break a jar full of pee. Or maybe I' m just too lazy to carry around my own excriment if it' s not still inside my body.

I try to empty out my system before leaving into the field. If nature calls I just pick a spot and let it go. If I got to go # 2 I carry some TP with me just in case. I don' t bother digging a hole. No other animal in the woods does. ;)

Aught Six -

Those pee sacks were listed as low mileage, one owner - kinda like a good used car ... :D

As far as #2 is concerned, I fold up several paper towels and put them in a zip-lock sandwich bag. When the storm is over, I dampen a towel to complete the paperwork. Wouldn' t want to have diaper rash at my age ... :D

You can buy those bags at Fleet Farm they are called a " Spare Bladder" I think they are like two bucks. As far as #2. I take a 5 gallon bucket in my stand and some garbage bags and of course tp. then i just sh#% in the bag and wipe and tie the bag shut. No scent and carry it out at the end of the day and throw it away.

RE: Going Bathroom In Woods?

This question reminded me of a story. One time, a few years back, my son, who was 8 at the time, and I went bow hunting. I found a nice scrape about 40 yards away from my stand the day before. I showed my son the scrape and explained what the scrape was and what deer did at the scrape. While I was putting a scent dripper on the branch above the scrape I heard the slap of water hitting the dirt. There was my son letting it go right in the middle of the scrape. I got a little upset with him, apologized and said " hey when you gotta go...you gotta go" and proceeded to the stand for the evening hunt.

Two hours later, a nice bodied 6 point buck came through and investigated the scrape. I thought he would high tail it out of there once he got a good whiff. Surprisingly, the deer got upset, scraped like heck, and thrashed his antlers over and over again on the overhanging branch. After the shot hit the boiler room and the deer crashed I looked at my son and said " Pee wherever you want."

Urine is urine. I have freshened scrapes with my own urine. Seems to make bucks mad. They will expand and freshen the scrape. Excretement dosen' t bother deer like HUMAN SCENT.

Scrape away a clear spot a few inches deep, go in it, cover it with dirt and leaves.
