My first stand. Built this myself at 12 and killed deer the next year at 13. Used it for about five seasons

This property is leased out now and I'm guessing the stand is no longer in the tree.

Shot my first archery deer, a 120lbs doe, and my first archery buck , an 8 pt from that stand.

Good memories

Here is the last one I built before I bought my 360 enclosed stand. I had to make it large and put on handrails because I started my 12 year old grandson in this stand. Took a lot of deer from it. I knocked it down when I got my new stand because it was too close to my new stand and it was starting to get weak and I didn't want anyone going in it when I wasn't hunting and have it break loose and get someone hurt, I had to put longer screws in it every fall before I used it because the movement of the big trees would loosen the screws.

You are not too old to hunt out of one of these.! I am pushing 79 and I got tired of being cold and wet. That doesn't happen anymore. My little buddy heater keeps me warm. It has 13 window and there is no place outside where you cannot get a shot

Oh yes. I remember carrying 2x4s and 1x4s or 1x6s along with hammer and nails (big nails) into the woods in an army dufflebag along with a saw.

I built one years ago after lugging it in and putting it up. I only hunted out of it a couple of times. Then the state passed a law about nailing or screwing them into a tree. So I abandoned it rather than go through all that work taking it down. I was successful of getting deer out of it though. Now I hunt from a ground blind and it works well for me. I’m getting to old to climb and the blind serves me well..

On this coming Thursday I am moving this stand out of deep woods to a wood line on the edge of grass hay field. This spring the woods got so thick with new growth that unless a deer is on the trail past my stand I will not be able to see them. I am also going to forgo putting the stand on the 8 ft tower because in the new spot I will be looking down hill. I have killed a lot of deer out of this in both archery and rifle season but unless I want to play lumber jack to open a lot of woods up so I have better visibility and I will be 79 in 3 months I have to move. Looking forward to the new site and I will be in the stand on friday to see how it does.
