Default 2023 Buck

This was my 2023 buck. Not huge compared to some of y'all's northern bucks, but for a low-fence Texas Hill Country buck he's pretty decent. Got some photos of him on 12/9. Knocked him down on 12/16. 7mm-08. He took two steps after the shot. Weighed in at almost 150 after the rut. Ranch manager said he looked to be 5 1/2. Personal best antler score at 127 1/8. Never shot one with a split tine before. He's now in the freezer, ground venison for chili and a bunch of jalapeno and cheddar smoked sausage.

Made for a successful year. I also got three wild pigs and three turkeys.

Yes. He's at the taxidermist. Hoping to get him back around August.

Congratulations on a great Texas Hill Country buck! While not the biggest, a 5.5-year-old with a 127 1/8" antler score and a two-step harvest with your 7mm-08 is certainly a successful hunt. Sounds like you're well-stocked for the winter with ground venison for chili and some delicious-sounding jalapeno cheddar smoked sausage from your harvest, along with three wild pigs and three turkeys!
