My favorite caliber for deer, like most people' s I' m sure, is 30cal, what cartridge, well that' s a whole new can of worms!

I' d imagine my favorite cartridge will always be the .30-06 sprng in rifles, although I' m a huge fan of .44mag and .45-70' s, but if I had to choose only one, I' d go with the .30-06

I' ve killed a few deer with .243 and until this past Saturday I would have gone with this,.....BUT, now my new favorite is .308 Win.:D

Remington 7600 in .35 whelen, but my heart goes out to my trusty .300 savage which I harvested my first deer with.

For close hunting, 30/30 Winchester lever action. For long range, the lightweight Rem Model 7 in .308
