I've quickly dispatched many deer with a 30-30. The only thing I would do different on a nothern bigger whitetail is use a 170 grain bullet.
All of my southern 30-30 deer have been killed with 150 grains.
The beauty of the 30-30 on deer is that you do not have to have an epensive bullet. Pretty much any bullet performs well at the lower velocity.
