Default Need help...What Cal. should I use?

In two weeks I will be participating in my first deer hunt and I need help with the correct caliber rifle. I will be hunting from a ground blind and my shot will be within a 100 yards. I have been practicing with both a .30-30 170 grn. round and a 300 Savage 150grn round with good results. All other things equal, I' m looking for some advice on which would be the most effective???

Both are plenty big. . .done lots of reading on the topic this year. If those are your 2 options/choices pick the one that fits you best. Where not crashing these rounds through brush and not knocking down Elk. Just be sure you can keep you groups under 3 or 4 inches at 100 yards and you should stop him pretty quick with either one.

Either are both good for deer. If it were me, I would choose my favorite gun fist and try to christen it first. Also, if one has open sightes while the other a scope, I would go with the one that I feel most comfortable with.

In other words, make a choice based upon your preference.

Happy hunting.....

Must admit. . . . . I also use .270 130Gr Hornady ballistic tips and I get nice tight groups and not much runnin around after a hit.

Either will do fine, as said use the gun you like the best. I shoot a 30-30 a lot and use the 150gr. off the shelf load. Good load to 150 yds. can go to 200 but starts to drop quit a bit.

Both will do just fine at that range, however I personally would go with
the 300, for a little more knock down power.

Both will work......... I use 30-06 with 150gr federal classics........ I am accually thinking about buying a 30-30 for a brush gun..... Pick what either of the two you can' t go wrong. The 30-30 has killed more deer than any other gun.

The 300 in which ever bullet you feel confident with. Personally I am another NBT(Ballistic Tip) fan for deer. I have used a great number of cartridges and use a 7mmRM now.

The 3030 will work but I have never been a fan of this round, especially when you say your equally comfortable with a 300, no choice to make IMHO.
