Best spot to hunt on this location.

I have only hunted this land for a day before, seeing pleanty of tracks through the corn fields. I still need some help finding the best location to find deer. I know it's difficult to find deer without scouting the area, but I'm wondering if there is a way to find a good location on this land. Where should I sit, I'm still new to hunting.

It would be helpful if you could also provide a topographical version of this, from GoogleMaps, even.

But no matter what you do, in a wide open area like that---and if you're hunting from the ground, especially---you want to make sure you're facing the wind.

I'm honestly liking the NE portion of the topo map, where the finger ridge goes up in elevation (not sure how well it overlays with the satellite photo). With the road cutting off the bottom of the slope to the south, and not knowing how much traffic it gets, I would think deer move unmolested from the NE. With a creek down there, seems a potentially good deer highway for movement from off the property, before they ascend.
So I would favor the NE section of the field to start, then hope to scout the finger ridge ascending from the creek at some point for a future setup inside the woods. |

Sounds great. Thanks I'm pretty new so this has helped a lot! I have a question still I'm going to show you the perimeter of the place. Would it still work. The Orange filling is my boundary.

Top of the ridge by the RR tracks???
Hunt furthest from the road where you park your car...and let other hunters spook the deer towards you. Or find a scrape-line and hunt downwind of it??? Bucks usually check there scrape-lines at night, but they scent check there scrapes downwind of them at first --- Though I haven't had much success hunting a scrape-line. |
Wrb00, The only thing tripping me up is that I'm not sure how the property line and the topo overlap. As in, where's the field? Perhaps if you could do the orange overlay on it I could speak more definitively.
But I would still think that the NE corner of the field would be the likely entry point for a lot of deer that may even be bedded off the property. |

Give me side-by-side maps that have equal zoom and centering. I am simply lost, otherwise, sorry. Your last 3-location map seems to be really zoomed in (and I think that made the topo lines disappear, too).

Hi,I think your in WI The way I would start to hunt this land is to go out at noon and scout along fields and into woods say 100 yards or so playing the wind as I go (mean in your face as much as possible). Look for trails leading to the fields you think there feeding in.Pack a light climber stand and try to go undetected. If say I find some scrapes or a rub line I would hunt one of those that night. If I find a fresh scrape ( one made that morning of the day of 1st scouting) I some times don't hunt the fresh scrape until the next morning.Maybe look for a spot along fields to put out a buck decoy but I bet you find some scrapes. Don't be afraid to rattle and grunt as bucks in Ohio are Pre rut right now.If you find many trails that go into one before it goes in the field that would be a good spot.If alot of people are hunting adjacent land find spots where deer will be pushed to you.Been deer hunting a while wish I could go with you to help out?I've been hunting for 45 years and have got a few . I love hunting this time of year best of all before the guns go off. Jim
