My first deer
Well first of all I would not reccomend drinking alot of coffee before getting in the stand. It was in Comer, Georgia and it was Thanksgiving weekend I think. My 8year old son was with me. After we got settled in to our tree it didn' t take very long with the cold and the coffee to do a number on me. Three hours went by with me fidgiting and finally I said its time to go relieve myself. I started down the ladder when my son said, " hey dad here comes one." I made my way back up to my .243 w/scope if your wondering how I could not spook him and dropped him right after my son said, " don' t gut shot him dad." Thats how I got to experience my first thanks to my son. He was a nice 6 pointer. Sorry no pics.

That sounded like a great and very rewarding hunt for you. Probably nothing better than having the little one there with you(helping you out seeing deer...LOL). Has he watched any hunting shows? " Don' t gut shot him dad" . I like that one. Congrats.

RE: My first deer
Great story
You will only have to clean 1 that has been gut shot to never want to again. I just about lost my cookies on the 1 I gut shot. The best we can figure was I hit a twig between myself and him causing the bullet to stray from the neck shot I was aiming for and where the bullet hit. We went out and range tested the gun and ammo and was within 1" at 200yds, and I know I didn' t pull.

Anyway crap happens
I like the fact that you are getting your kid involved early. My dad did the same for me. My 2 youngest are finished Hunter Safety and will be comming along this fall. Good luck with the hunt
