I have a Marlin model 1895 45-70 guide gun I use for deer and hogs, it would be a great black bear gun. Short barrel and a lot of smack down. I have never shot beyond 100 yards with it but at 100 yards it hist where it is supposed to and if I practiced at 200 I am sure I could connect with it. The odds of that where I hunt are slim to none. I sure would take it over a 30-30 or 35 Remington any day for putting critters down.

Of the choices on your list, I would go with the Marlin Model 336.
Now, if I was going to build me a potent short-range, heavy cover hunting rifle, I would probably go with a 16.5" to 20" barreled AR-15 chambered in 450 Bushmaster, or maybe an AR-10 chambered in 45 Raptor. On either one I'd mount a good low power scope or red dot sight. |
The AR would not be legal in his state!

PA, I've taken pretty much every big game animal walking on this continent from hogs to Moose with a .30-30 and would absolutely NEVER knock it. It is probably one of the most underrated cartridges out there. But in all objectivity and sincerity it doesn't have a whole hell of a lot of gusto. Same with the venerable .35REM. The newer .450MAR would be an ideal cartridge for what you are asking. Out to 200 would be a poke but a doable poke. MPBR for one loaded with a 350gr FP Interlock is 187 yards if sighted in 3 high at 100 with more than enough energy to put down anything walking on this continent. And if recoil is an issue with you, I have been told by several that own them that the recoil is not bad at all with a PROPERLY fitted rifle. A .30-30 can hurt someone shooting a poorly fitted rifle.

True, but I'm just saying what rifle I'd go with. |

most shots at bears are under 30 yards, but since i want a multi purpose gun (also to be used for deer where longer shots are possible) a 12ga or 450 isn't my top option, id like something flatter. My longest kill to date is only 74 yards, so i don't need a long range banger, just something that i can go 200 if need be. even though 200 is probably never happening

12 gauge rifled slug gun of your choice possibly 3 power heavy black reticle or maybe green dot
|
A 12ga slug is pretty sketchy even at 150 yards for the average guy.

Not with the Savage 212. Not even a little bit. But that is a dedicated slug rifle not a field gun with a slug barrel slapped on. Big difference.
