RE: Level of supervision for young hunters?
I was squirrel hunting by myself when I was 11 and deer hunting alone when I was 12, but I haven' t given my children the same freedom. My oldest son was 16 before I would let him hunt out of my sight. He was very mature and I had an extreme amount of confidence in him, but I did not feel it was fair to him or other hunters. I don' t care how mature or great of a kid any twelve year old is, I don' t want to be in the woods with them without supervision. Experienced people make mistakes, inexperienced people make more.

RE: Level of supervision for young hunters?
i believe it goes by the maturity of the hunter...and of course state regulations.. I would like for my child to pass a hunter saftey course before going into the woods but when I was younger and hunted with other people my age at the time I got very nervous by some of the stuff that they did.. so I tried to distance myself from them.. so not all ages are going to be as saftey concious as others... I would pass on saftey and hunting knowledge and see his/her maturity level and go from there... I have seen to many people shot with guns from accidents that made STUPID mistakes and were not paying attention to what they were doing
