What makes you think he's that old? Knowing where you live would help as far as whether I'd think about shooting him. He's a nice buck, but if he's as old as you think he is I'd shoot him because he probably wont get much bigger. On the other hand, if he's only 3 or 4 he could double that size rack when he's 6 or 7 if he lives that long. I'm not going to give a score guess on the thread, but I know about what I think he would go and it would depend where you're at whether I'd shoot him or not if I got the chance.

Oklahoma and the first pic you can see his neck to brisket area saggy
|
My guess is 135-140.

Thanks for your input

High 120s, "maybe 130", he's got great length on g2-3s but his brow tines & mass are lacking. That buck CANNOT be 6-7yrs old. I've killed two 7yr olds, a 154" 14pt in southern MO & a 130" 8 in south TX. Once they get that old they look like little old men in a big mans clothes... their skeletal frame shrinks but their skin doesn't shrink so it is saggy & mis-shaped nearly everywhere. Their hips & shoulders are much more "squared" & visible as is their ribs & spinal column. Same goes for their necks, they look like old men with thin necks in a button up shirt with a collar that hangs all around them. Old bucks like that will likewise have MASS & many times will develop blades, stickers, stubbed off points/beam tips etc... Their faces likewise sink-in & their noses usually appear thicker & sometimes odd shaped.
I think that buck is only 3-4yrs old. A nice 8 none the less, but not yet fully grown! Be careful with rear/quartering away angles, they ALWAYS make a buck appear considerably larger! |
Okay thanks for your help....

110-112, he's a 18" 8 point

IMO I think he's a low 130's and probably closer to 4 1/2. Very nice buck regardless. Could be a real beast if he's around next year.
|
Maybe about 150?

Thanks for all the support on this thread.
|
I would say 126" gross.
|
really nice. i would say 130 ?
|
Thanks for all help guys... He made it thru the year...
|
120 to 125
|
I think he would score around 120. He is a nice buck but an 8 pt will have to have more mass to go over 130. A 130 8 pt usually looks bigger than a 140-150 10 pt. he is probably 4 years old. He is still a nice buck.
|
Hopefully, you will get him on camera next year, and can share the image with us. I would find it interesting to see his antlers in 2015.
|
those calling the buck in the 130's, 140's, and even a 150 compare the 2 pics, the top buck scores 126, horns are about equal except the top buck has a wider spread and more mass. you figure the top buck has 2" more spread, at least 4" more on main beam length, and possibly 2" on mass, your looking at approx. 118" in the bottom pic. Wouldn't body size factor in to the appearance of the rack size? Not sure what your deer weighs but just thinking a WV deer wouldn't be an accurate comparison to a Kansas deer based on the fact that i have always heard Kansas deer are heavy compared to the same age WV deer. Its all just my opinion but no way do I believe that second deer is only 118 inches. Guess I never will know

here is a link to some bucks that either barely made 125" P&Y min. or barely did not, look at the 130's and 140's in there http://forums.bowsite.com/TF/bgforum...orum=4#3086109 RR |
I know what it takes for 8 point to make 140's. I have a 142" 8 point on the wall(gross). And from the first and third picture of the original poster they are similar other than lacking some mass and some brow length.

Very nice deer rockport. And just a side note you could be the twin brother of a friend of mine here in Indiana. Every time I look at your avitar I think its him.LOL

I have seen the forms and know how it is done. However I did not score my deer and the score I gave was done by my taxidermist with no deductions or drying time on the day I shot it and has not been scored since. After seeing rockports picture I think he may have accidentally told me a story. That being said the score being gave to the original poster is IMO.
As for posting a pic of my deer I don't Know how but am trying. If it does not come through in this post anyone feel free to give me some pointers and I will try again |
Wow it worked. Pay no attention to the cob webs behind it lol

Very nice buck!

Thanks! My biggest here in IN. my second biggest over all. Killed a big 10 in southern IL. at my cousins several years ago that was bigger.
