Winchester ballistic silver tips

Anyone use these for 7mm08 youth 140gr

Thank you for any feedback .

I have friends that use them. It's a good bullet.

Thank you for the reply, I would like to know if they can be used on a high shoulder shot , say some where around 150 yards on a whitetail and penetrate enough into the vitals with my son's youth rifle with a 20 in barrel ? Thanks again.

It's not the best choice for that. It's more of a long range flat shooting bullet.

If I wanted to be sure of passing though shoulders i'd get a better construction bullet like a Partition, or Barnes.

Thank you Mr. Pete

I wouldn't recommend the Winchester BST's for any "hard contact". They're a rather fragile built bullet, so they're ideal for a "heart/lung shot" behind the shoulder. A 7mm-08 with a 140grn pill is hard enough hitting that it will break the shoulder and penetrate well enough, but I wouldn't trust it to be a reliable kill. Hitting near side bone, that thing will shatter and the jacket will separate from the core - been there, done that.

Are you saying not to trust that shot period or that shot with the bst ?

Muley Hunter 10-13-2014 10:58 AM

He's saying to not trust the BST for shoulder shots. It's a good bullet for double lung shots. That's what my friends use it for.

Use Barnes if you want to bust through shoulders. There's other bonded bullets that will work, but I know Barnes will hold together.

Thank you for the clarification.
I put a 150 gr 3006 soft point into the leg muscle of a buck he ran maybe 20 yards.
Small exit, it was a double lung and top of the heart. It was almost dark when I shot, so that's why I'm looking for something that will be devastating with a good exit that will point me the way. Thanks for the help.

I've seen as many BSTs (& NBTs) end with bad stories as I've heard good ones! :s10:

My youngest son & his best bud both hung up their 243s (80grn TTSXs) & they both are PILING THEM UP with their 7-08s with 120TTSXs. Regardless of shot angle or position, the 120 still won't stay in the deer! Blood trails can be followed by Ray Charles with Stevie Wonder holding the flashlight. ;)
