thought I saw one hog hunting in Cal. but

There have been cases where this has happened, because the buck is in full rut.
Usually he will come to his scenses,I would walk slowly out of the area.

I wouldn't rule out that he was going to attack you if you acted in any way aggressive. I got &quot;attacked&quot; by a 3 pt. two year old on opening day this season. He ran at me full bore, so I moved around a little to make myself obvious, he just kept on coming, but my 165 grain ballistic tip .30-06 detered his advance quite nicely. If you surprised him, and didn't seem to be threatening to him, he would try to run you off, if you would have acted aggressively he wouldn't have done anything I'm sure, but moving toward him passively could have gotten the crap kicked out of you.
