I started out shooting a Kodiak bear 45# recurve my first buck was taken at just about 20 yrds. I then went to shooting a Hoyt raider/intruder at 51#'s and the longest pass through was 32 yrds I now, due to shoulder problems have a Mission Venture set at 49#'s and my longest shots have been 35yrds pass throughs.
I have had 2 unintentional shoulder shots at 20 yards. One with the Hoyt and one with the Mission...both shots passed through the front shoulder and the far shoulder almost penetrating the far side skin. the pic is the venture doe from last year it dropped her in her tracks. So the bow, broadhead and physical stress all factor into decisions made on poundage.IMO
