Antlers hitting the trees?
Hey gang, This morning I went hunting around 5-6 am that's pretty early for me, Anyways I've what sounded like wood hitting wood 3 consecutive times. Does this mean the rut is really getting under way?
|
I was always told that when a Sasquatch sees you he will bang a stick up against a tree. Seriuosly though it could have been deer fighting but in my experience antlers have little higher pitch to them than the dead sound wood makes.

The wind plays funny tricks in the dark.
|
Thanks guys, It was a higher pitch sound not a thud and it was 3 consecutive times. Then I heard a big branch crack, and that was it.
Bullcamp, It was calm for about 5 in the morning. No weeds were stirring or blowing no wind! By the way I do not believe in Big Foot, How ever it could be out there... |
Stay with it, and when you figure out what's making the strange noises let us know.
I don't believe in Bigfoot or other such mythical creatures either but I've heard noises in the woods at night that can't be attributed to any known species of wildlife. What made the noise? Beats me. |
I've heard that often over the years. I always just assumed it was some animal stepping on a downed branch and breaking it.
|
do u hunt my beavers? that can make some of the oddest noises.
|
bears make a popping sound...sounds like something knocking on wood...this is the first year ive hunted them and I knew something was coming because I heard the "popping" sound. or its sasquatch..:s4:
|
I wonder whether it was a Great Blue Heron squawking.

I don't fing think so dude, get alife.
I was fortunate enough to grow up in a hunting camp with several permanent members, and many, many guest visitors over the years. One of the things I learned at an early age is how to take a good joke... Tho I'm fairly new to frequenting this forum, it would seem to me that Bullcamp is full of good jokes, and/or clever replies... Sometimes it pays to not take oneself, or things said in this forum to seriously. |
Im afraid of the dark and Im man enough to admit it. Just helps me get to my stand quicker. Kick up a covey of quail at 5am in the dark and then tell me you arent scared ****less. And dont even gets me started about Sasquatch. :nonono2:

Good show old boy !!!!! |
From this little bit of information, I would guess its pileated woodpeckers. They are the big ones.

It was definitely a sasquatch.

I once scared off a grizzly with a sneeze. But then it was a big sneeze and a small grizzly so I guess it wasn't that big of a deal.

So much truth is that. Funny how a little squirrel sounds like a big bruiser coming in, gets the blood pumpin for sure. |

I wish I had a merit badge to give you. You have certainly earned it.
Good show old boy !!!!! |
BullCamp, About the Merit badge, Don't worry dude, I was stupid when I was younger, and I certainly don't deserve it. I respect the Cemetery now, and I don't go in there unless it's to barry our dead and pay the last respects to that person who has died. I was merely stating a fact nothing in the woods don't scare me but I do feel alive when I am in them.

But being scared in the woods......well.....when you go back in after that second or third load of elk meat in the dark, in grizz country, in wind when you can't hear well.......and something goes crash in the brush. I'm scared sh*tless. |

Hey, I'm just razzing you bro. It's cool that you feel so alive in the woods. That's what it's all about. If we didn't feel that way there would be no point to it for us.
