Taz hit the nail on the head for VA. I hunt in the mountains and the average wieght is around 100lbs. They don't have the crop lands to gorge on. I did harvest 2 nice bucks this year in the 140-45 range. Maybe the food plots we planted finally started to work. We have been very dilegent for 3 years. Who know's, maybe it will payoff.

Canadian stalker-Mature bucks in our area will average 275 to 300 lbs with some considerably bigger. Many people always have and always will shoot the first deer they see which is not usually a mature buck. The result is that the average deer shot is usually a yearling or 2-1/2 year old deer.

I only know field dressed weights. Where I hunt in Maine a good doe will field dress out at about 110-130lbs. with the rare girl going heavier...every year there are stories about does approaching 175+. A mature buck will field dress around 180lbs., but can be much larger. The top ten bucks weight-wise in Maine will field dress between 255 to 295ish with a buck every five years or so field dressing over 300.
Go over to the Northeast forum and look at the thread under "8 inch bases" or something to that effect...he dressed 265 and will fall mid-range in the top ten. DLuke

Where we hunt in Oregon west of the Cascade mountains I would say 100 to 150 field dressed would be average and east of the mountains 130 to 180 . There are some taken over 200 but they are exceptional .The deer west are blacktails and east are mule deer .
