Another vote for the 7mm-08 here. Not any specific reason, I just like it and think you will too! Between the two you listed I'd go with the .25-06 for what you need currently.

I, also, recommend the 7-08. Or the Rem .260, for that matter. Phenomenal rounds, and would seem to fit the bill for what you intend.

One thing alot of people dont realize about the 25-06, unless they have been arround them is that they have tremendous muzzle blast. In my opinion, that causes more flinching problems than a hard kick.

You should also take a look at a gun chambered in .257 roberts. That would be perfect for deer and antelope. Its a classic, maybe a little harder to find factory ammo than the 25-06.

Information overload........ Lol

I am leaning towards the 25-06. I can't get rid of the Ruger 7mm mag with tang safety. It was a wedding present from my father in law, who also owns the ranch that I hunt. Therein I have a permanent deer rifle for the ranch. Plus, i like it. I also have points in Wyoming for elk and moose, and the 7mm mag will fit that bill. The 300 savage model 99 is my grandfather's, and I want to kind of start collecting those 99s. I love em.

Like I mentioned, I will be using this gun for an antelope hunt, but also maybe some coyotes etc. not really looking to replace anything, just kind of looking to buy another gun, and somehow I found an amazing wife that basically let's me....I am looking to maybe do an antelope hunt every 3 years or so between elk hunts....

Looks like I have some more looking to do...

If you really want to buy a gun...

If buying another gun is what this is about, then the 25/06 seems like the one. It fills the gap between your 22/250 and the 7 mag. I agree that the .280 (as well as the .270) are great calibers, but If I already had a 7 mag, I would just load that with a bullet/load and use it. A 139-150 gr. 7mm would be great for antelope and lots of other stuff.

Partial

to lever guns myself. Anything in a flat-shooting 99 Savage but IMHO the .308 in 99C is a great gun, close to .30-06 ballistics. Just sayin'!

Remnard hit it on the head and you may want to read his post again before buying.

280! :patriot:

I am really leaning towards the weatherby Vanguard in stainless 25-06. Handled one the other day. Didnt pull the trigger in it cause the wife would kill me if I came home with a new gun this close to Christmas....
