It may be 1,200 acres but I have a feeling they know where these deer are going to be especially if there is over the natural capcity inside the fence and the use supplementa feeding.

Not my thing you want to do it go ahead, just don't be surprised when some one you tell where and how you got the monster shakes their head and laughs just a little bit.

Roughneckms 01-20-2013 06:30 AM

Im far enough away from the line an I just now put my climber up I'm going to hunt him this evening.. An the rut is full blast right now. Would grunting work?

Topgun 3006 01-20-2013 06:36 AM

You must be way down south somewhere to still be hunting and have the rut in full swing. Grunting won't hurt anything, but if he's locked up on a hot doe somewhere he won't leave her. IMHO hunting a good buck right before the rut starts and they go bananas is the better time to get him when he's just out cruising before the does really start driving him nuts. Once the rut really kicks in they are on the move and have no pattern for the most part.

Topgun 3006 01-20-2013 06:42 AM

CharlieP---I didn't know you owned a hunting preserve that charged by the inch, LOL! If you're trying to diss on the OP you're doing a good job, but if it took him three years to get that deer and with others hunting the property all that time it doesn't sound like a "gimme" canned hunt that I abhor!

Charlie P 01-20-2013 07:04 AM

Or he isn't that good of a hunter.;) Or it's all a story just like the guy last week that posted for the other place on here an ended up working for them. The guy has three posts two of them are on this place sorry if I'm a bit skeptical but just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's true. He has been hunting for three years? How many trips three?

Just remember to call ahead for the availibilty on those bucks over 202 inches wouldn't want them to be out stock and ruin your hunt.:p

skinnnner 01-20-2013 07:38 AM

Nice buck congrats!love the mass

WestVirginiaBrent 01-20-2013 08:03 AM

"Hello, I'm calling to see if you have the deer on page 22 of your catalog available, the 186" one?"

"We sure do, he's in the back 40."

"This is a fair chase hunt, right?"

"Absolutely!!"

Roughneckms 01-20-2013 08:29 AM

Thanks for the help. An yeah I'm from south ms... He is on 40 acres of 15 year old pines an other people's land surrounds mine I'm tryin to get him before they do

Concerning the deer, congratulations, he's a hell of buck, and as long as you are happy and proud, that's all that matters. With that neck and mass I would certainly get him mounted in a semi-sneak position to highlight both.

I have to agree here. It is a great buck, that is for sure and if he is proud that is all that matters.

This is though a high fenced operation. While most free roam land has a carry capacity of deer with a limit of mature bucks, this type of hunt does not. The land will hold as many mature bucks as they can put in there. Someone could say they've been trying to kill a deer for a few years, but how many other bucks are they going for as well? On the land I hunt we get about 5 shooters on camera over 130" a year on 300 acres. On high fenced land there are as many buck on there as the fence can hold in. They can have a 150" deer for every five acres if they wanted too. They are growing bucks then "releasing" them into the high fenced area. We don't know how many bucks they have to know how sporting it was. If there is one buck on 1200 acres, its a pretty good hunt. If they have 100 bucks over 130" on this land, it really isn't hunting, more like killing. Plus, I am a big opponent to any place that says, "Sorry, you can't kill that deer, it's not in your price range"

All said and done, if he is proud of his deer, that is all that matters. It's just not my type of hunting.

Topgun 3006 01-20-2013 09:02 AM

Good post fastetti and I couldn't agree with you more if that's the type of place it is and it's sounding more and more that way after I looked at their website!!!

Nice buck.

One giant buck there. Congrats to the hunter. Ignore the controversy surrounding the hunt. I've never seen the need to hunt a fenced area but 1200 acres is big and you can't knock it till you've tried it.

rogerstv 01-21-2013 09:33 AM

Nice deer.

Not so sure you can determine on the hoof weight by the weight of processed meat received. If you received sausage you are also weighing pork as well as venison.

reds10ss 01-24-2013 04:24 PM

hell of a buck, i would have have shot it too!

VTBoneCollector 03-01-2013 10:38 AM

Excellent buck. Myself and 4 other guys will be hunting 15 minutes from where you shot your buck this fall.

redgreen 03-01-2013 03:14 PM

Great buck! congrats.

iowa whitetail 03-04-2013 01:30 PM

Doc I agree with you all the way . Fair Chase? Ok guys lets think about this a little 1200 acers come on i dont care what the land looks like. A free whitetail deer will move atleast double that and 3 times that in the rut. As far as the 30000 acres and them knowing the deer and the location its called scouting they have to scout 30000 acers not 1200. Ask this question without a high fence would that deer be staying there for sure?

deernutz 03-04-2013 03:11 PM

I'm not here to judge. My outlook is to each his own. I will say though I belonged to a hunt club in SC that was 1200 acres and there were some big bucks pushing 160' 170's on it. Had quite a few pics of them. While they might go onto ajoining property once in awhile. It still was a needle in a hay stack. 1200 acres is a lot of land. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

NebBuckHunter 03-04-2013 07:24 PM

I dunno.....I hunt every year on an 11,000 acre ranch. While I'm there for the 9 day season, I see quite a few of the same deer multiple times....now if I operated the same place for the purpose of only hunting (it's a cattle ranch) I'd assume I'd have a better idea of where these same deer were, as well as many other deer. And this is on a property 10X bigger than the one in question. To me 1200 really ISN'T that big.

With that said, to each their own.

kjcoop4 07-12-2015 07:43 PM

Has anyone hunted at this place recently or is it still up and running? Or has anyone else hunted with Dan Parrott??

Topgun 3006 07-12-2015 08:03 PM

We'll need a little more information that you gave us to even begin to help. I googled the guy's name and that header title and came up with a big deer killed in LA and nothing of significance for the guy you're asking about.

super_hunt54 07-12-2015 08:15 PM

LMAO.... Topper you already did that research on this property back in January of 2013!!! I just spent 10 minutes reading the whole post out of curiosity and the big whodo about high fence hunting 1200 acres! Of which for a few posts you were leading the pack!

That's funny! When I clicked on the thread his post came up and I just saw it was his first one and didn't even see that he had brought back an old thread! You know darn well that at our age that we're lucky to remember what we ate the same day we ate it, so if that thread was that old there is no way I even remember it, LOL!

TG, that gave me a laugh. I also read the post from boredom... when you said you needed more info I was thinking... wait..... lol

Just wait until you get well into your 60s Jake, as it can get dang ridiculous when you get so forgetful that when you go down to the basement you have to turn around, sit down, and then try to remember what in the H you were heading down there for the first time, LOL! Right now I just call it "sometimers" and just hope and pray that it doesn't develop into that other nasty one we all fear as we age!

I would say that "I'll have to remember that one" But at my age I better write it down. Now where's my pen, paper, what were we talking about?

gjersy 07-14-2015 04:30 PM

1st time i saw this picture i knew it was a high fence deer, thats why on the 1st page i politely asked the question. I hate deer farms, A high fence deer farm just released CWD in my area.

gjersy 07-14-2015 04:35 PM

CWD "No Accident Film" check that title out on youtube

the blur 07-21-2015 07:19 PM

How high is the fence ? I've personally seen deer jump 6' fences, (with ease), and I hear they can scale a 10' fence if they want too.

gjersy 07-21-2015 07:26 PM

Try 12 foot high fence.

Topgun 3006 07-21-2015 07:43 PM

If they can get a clear run at it, sometimes a 10' fence may not hold an adult in good shape.

gjersy 07-21-2015 07:51 PM

12 foot, i've seen it bud.

gjersy 07-21-2015 07:53 PM

And they go threw it and under it unfortunately.

CrossbowCorner 07-23-2015 01:41 PM

MASSIVE! Great work on this one
