What does he score?

I shot this buck last season and was wondering what kind of score you would give him. I have never scored a buck so I wouldnt know where to begin by looking at a picture or even what a reasonable guess would be. I havent gotten him back yet either. Once I do, I will score him myself. Thanks.

Western MA Hunter 11-01-2012 08:02 AM

i'd say 140

niterydr 11-01-2012 08:15 AM

I will give it a 128.

elmoughler 11-01-2012 08:36 AM

125-135 or so

BuckRut27 11-01-2012 08:57 AM

it's gotta be between 125 and 130 IMO

WV Hunter 11-01-2012 09:13 AM

125-130 probably. Nice buck.

bkautz 11-01-2012 10:39 AM

hard to tell from the angle. 145-150 probably..these guys above are way to low on the scoring scale. hes at least 19 inches wide cause his ears are 18 inches tip to tip, his right g2 has gotta be avout 13 or 14 inches and his left is probably 11 or 12 ... hes going to go bigger than they think. His beams are decent length and has about average math. 148 3/8s. Let me know how close I am! lol congrats

AquamanPSD 11-01-2012 10:51 AM

I think you're a little high. I would say he will be close to 135. definitely not a bad buck!

bkautz 11-01-2012 11:03 AM

maybe im being generous i dont know.

switchback16 11-01-2012 11:03 AM

Thanks for all the replies. Once I get him back, I will try to score him myself and let you all know.

I'm gonna say he's allover it right there, give or take 5".

SouthernProOutdoors 11-01-2012 11:19 AM

Off topic, but what new product or service offered to outdoorsmen would break things wide open? What do we all need to be even more successful and have more fun doing what we already love? Investors want to know!

I gotta novel idea... NOTHING!!! There's more GARBAGE on the market now than anyone can fit in their pickup truck. Instead of another product, gadget, gizmo or outright BS what we need more of is HUNTERS instead of CONSUMERS! Folks completely happy to walk out the door in a pair of jeans, a flannel shirt, a simple lever action rifle (with a full magazine and NO extra ammo anywhere else!), ol pair of boots, a dovestool or bag chair behind a homemade blind and the confidence and knowledge to go sit downwind of a prime spot and a GOOD chance of taking the deer of THEIR choice. NOT something they feel compelled to snap a picture of with their cell phone then quickly post on sites like this or their Facebook page and then ask, "What age/score is it and should I shoot it?"

"Modernity" and the "me too" generation is quickly becoming ANNOYING!!! :eek2:

128-131:cool2:

indiana deer hunter 11-01-2012 03:56 PM

Id low 30s

NebBuckHunter 11-01-2012 04:56 PM

130-140 would probably be the bottom and top ends....

cowboy4513 11-01-2012 07:32 PM

I am saying 148 2/8 Shot a deer very similar lets see if i'm right!

chrisvie13 11-02-2012 05:16 PM

Same here................

Hunt4Life23 11-04-2012 04:54 PM

132 5/8 or so

Jason from OH 11-05-2012 05:31 PM

125 - nice buck... BTW no way he is a 140/150-class buck. Those type of deer have to have everything working for them (mass, spread, points, and length).

Jason from OH 11-05-2012 05:54 PM

Yes - spread is probably 16 inches, G2s are probably 8-9 inches...

NEBRbruiser 11-06-2012 11:29 AM

nice buck but unfortunately the 140/150 suggestions are wrong. All due respect to the guys for giving their opinion but its not a 140 or bigger deer. 125-130 is very close. Once again, nice deer. Nothing to be ashamed of thats for sure.

Agree on the spread and tine length for sure. I would say 130 max and with that said I would have shot him even though I have bigger on my wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

mbuckman1982 11-07-2012 04:54 AM

very nice buck, he is going to make P&Y if you took him with the bow! welcome to the club if that is the case! He looks like gross score 140 but with the one G4 only on the one side he will net 135-138 id say but dont let numbers get ya he is a fantastic deer! congreats.

You are close on the spread. He was a little over 16 inches inside spread. Not so close on the G2's. The shortest G2 was 12 inches and the longest was closer to 14 inches. I still dont have him back to get a score, but I did at least make these measurements when I killed him.

Dont worry! the numbers definitely dont get me. I was just curious about what everyone thought. I would have shot this deer regardless. Very proud of him and hunted him hard.

Your saying a deer ear tip to ear tip is 18".
That makes ear tip to center of head is 9"
Buy that measurement his left side G2 is about 9" and right side is about 8".
.
I say the deer a very nice buck of 125".

Id say you are right on at 125, but who ever said ear tip to ear tip of a whitetail is 18" is wrong, it is more like 16". There is no way that buck has 14" tines, the one in my avatar has 14" tines and they are no where as big as those.

Topgun 3006 01-10-2013 06:59 AM

Fritz---The guy just said several posts above yours that the actual measurement on the longer tines was 12" and just under 14". That's a very nice buck that I would also say is in the 120s to maybe low 130s.

Like I said, no way. Look at his erars compared to his tines, a whitetail has about a 6.5" ear. Those tines are not over twice as long at his ears. You do know you measure to where the tine meets the main beam not to the bottom of the main beam. The picture is deceiving, if you look the ears are laid back making the rack appear bigger than it actualy is. Place the ears straight out you will see than that rack is narrower than the his eartip spead of 16", I would say he is only about 14" if that on the inside spread with about 9"-10" tines, at the most.

Topgun 3006 01-10-2013 08:37 AM

That last post is exactly what I stated on one of the other scoring threads. Now here we have another expert looking at a picture and telling the friggin guy that has the rack in his hands and has measured it that he can't read a GD ruler, LOL! fritz1, you take the cake and it's no wonder you got banned for a while!!!

Yeah, Topgun. I beleive everything people post on here. I am a taxidermist, I know hunters and fishermen dont stretch the tape. LOL I mount deer for a living, I score animals. I am arround big deer everyday, I know what to look for and I know how to judge animals. I am not the average amature that only sees deer on t.v. and in magazines. We mount probably 300-400 deer a year. I know my measurements, apparently you dont. I have seen some of your guestaments, kinda like the other deer you thought was a 150ish, everyone else agreed about 130-140. I guess you are the expert! No need to argue with you! You have no idea how many 25lb steelhead customers bring in that actually weigh about 16lbs or 6 foot 500lb bear that actualy are 5 foot 250lbser, the same goes for deer. Hunters and fishermen make the best liers and if you beleive everything you hear or are told by magazines and on t.v., I have some oceanfront property here in Idaho to sell you.

Topgun 3006 01-10-2013 11:17 AM

So says fritz1, the self-proclaimed best hunter/shooter on the planet!!! Who gives a tinkers dam or rats azz what you do for a living!!! What makes you any different than anyone else on the internet, especially one who has been banned just for trying to start fights on this website like you are here! You know animals because you're around them every day is really a hoot, LOL! Do you talk to the animals too? So big deal that I disagreed with ONE rack that was posted and by less than 10 inches! I hope he comes back with an official score close to 150" so you and the other instigator can eat crow!!! Even if he does you'll probably say the scorers don't know how to use a tape, LOL! PS: I'm not going to play your game on the other thread you just started a little while ago either, just like I didn't on the one the other "expert" started just to get something going. Why can't people just be happy to have a little fun in their guesses, regardless of whether they end up wrong or not?

browtine7 01-10-2013 12:45 PM

Some where around the 130 mark or so

skinnnner 01-10-2013 05:22 PM

Same,about 130

Topgun 3006 01-10-2013 05:37 PM

So why aren't you guys giving the member that said this one is close to 150" like you did me on the other thread? Amazing that the OP says he measured the spread and the longest couple tines and then fritz1 comes back just from a picture and says he is wrong in his measurements, LOL!

I dont brag, just state the facts, if you or anyone else dont like it, it isnt my problem. My life is anything but dull, hunting fishing and a work career in the hunting industry, living in the sportsmens paradise of Idaho, yearly fishing trips to Florida. Nope deffinitely not dull!!!. I dont know what humble pie tastes like, maybe you could inform me.
