Don't buy a Remington 770.
They are a lot of trouble.
The bolt sticks, the bolt handle will fall off, I have heard of a lot of problems with the 770.
It is a cheap made gun.
It is not a good gun.

Get a Remington 798, it is built off a Mauser action, very strong.
Or better get a used Savage model 110.
That's my favorite rifle.

How about a Tikka T3? As said, stay away from the Remington. Another option would be a Ruger 77. Their warranty is outstanding, and great quality.

I haven't heard much good about the 770's either. If price is an issue, consider Savage Axis, Marlin xl or xs, and Ruger American Rifle. For a little more $$, Savage 11/111 series or Weatherby Vanguard 2.

A Remington 700 or a Ruger would be better choice as would a Weatherby vanguard.

I've got a Marlin XL7 in 270 and I love it. Best buy out there and their customer service is outstanding
