Default Homemade deer lure. Please help.

A buddy and I have been contemplating making our own deer lure. So far we have decided to put vanilla, apple cider, cut up sugar beets, and cut up apples into a pot. Add a little water and boil. Figure all the flavors will mix well. Let cool, get all the chunks out, put in spray bottle, and serve.

Im looking for advise here guys and gals. If anyone makes their own lure let me know what works and what doesn't work. Id appreciate any info yall have. Thanks and good huntin.

Place a cloth rag into the zip-lock freezer bag.
Pour 1 to 2 oz. of anise oil into the zip-lock bag and add several drops of pure vanilla extract.

Press the air out of the zip-lock bag and seal.

Take the anise rag to the area being hunted, place it on the ground and slightly cover the mixture with leaves or other debris.

Another option is to remove the anise rag from zip-lock bag prior to entering hunting area and wipe down hunting boots and gear with the anise rag.
This will serve to cover your scent so the deer will not be frightened away.
Tie the string onto one corner of the anise rag if you want to hang it on a tree limb near the area being hunted. The wind will carry the scent and attract deer.

You can get anise oil at drug stores.
I haven't tried this, I just found out about it.

Good Luck.

I posted a comment on this over at the bowhunting forum. I'm doing beechnut hulls.

usually what I do is mix apple juice or cider salt and brown sugar, take a strong stick or long screw drive poke holes in the ground so it really soaks in, that has worked for me also most important when trying diff mixes I put them in an area I do not hunt on a trail cam to see how affective they are so I dont blow my spot, good luck

Mix strawberry jello with vegetable oil and pour over a stump. Or strawberry jello with beer and pour it over corn. It really works. Twice as much traffic as regular corn.

Good old mollasses and guava nectar! Helps keep the bugs away too! It will also keep the tree rats busy licking it off their feet!
