Interested in getting an H&R Ultra Slug.
 

I was told a 20 guage is the one to get, however it seems hard to pass on the extra power of the 12 guage. Opinions?

i have heard the same thing as you, that 20 guage is the way to go for reason of recoil. i personally would toughen up and get 12 gauge and enjoy the extra knockdown.

I have the Ultra Deluxe in 20ga, topped off with a Leupold VX-II using Remington Accu-Tip 3" shells, tack driver, only my Savage 220f with the same scope and ammo is slightly better. The 20ga is perfect for deer/bear size game, I would opt for the 3" shell over the 2-3/4".....with todays high tech shotguns and ammo, there is no need to subject yourself to the recoil of the 12ga

Well maybe I can help here. I've hunted with both and can tell you that the 20 seemed more accurate. I think it was the tighter twist in the barrel. There is no doubt that the 20 has plenty of power down range to take a whitetail at any reasonable distance.

I have the 12 gauge it deffiently has alot of kick. Im having trouble getting it to eject some shells tho..? other then that I love the gun took 3 deer with it last year first year I had it

I hunt with several guys who use the H&R in 12 gauge and they all love it. I hunt with a 20 gauge and prefer it to the 12.

RyanVT---Can you describe exactly what is happening. I hope it's not as simple and dangerous as using a 3" shell in a 2 3/4 inch chamber!

What happens is I shoot and break the action open and the shell won't eject sometimes. I've tried cleaning it really well and everything but it hasn't fixed the problem. Any ideas?
