i saw that on tv also. i thought it was pretty neat, and am very impressed that they build something that can take such a beating from repetative shots.
while i was watching it on tv i was waiting for some knucklehead to pull over and take a shot with a .338 and knock the head off or something.

A guy I know got busted shooting a mechanical a few years ago. It was set up in a field in a turn at night so as the headlights of a vehicle coming around the turn would shine right on it. This guy saw it as he drove by, turned around, then got out and shot it. Bad thing is he only had to pay a $600 fine. He kept his gun, truck, and hunting license. My opinion is they need a much stiffer penalty for stuff like this.

They use them around our area every once in awhile. I' ve seen the videos from a local game warden back when I was in school. The GW came and spoke to our wildlife mangment class and showed us videos of it. I think they are great tools for catching criminals but as Rob said, they are just a black eye for the hunting community.
I also personally know 2 different guys who were busted shooting the decoy but were let go, scott free, because they knew the GW. I know it happened for a fact and it doesn' t suprise me knowing how our local GW' s are.

Theres some gamewarden show that comes on tv from time to time, i havent seen it in over a year. One time in Texas they set up several javelina (to make it look real sense they travel in packs i guess). It was amazing how many people they busted shooting at the thing, as soon as the gun went off game wardens hidden on the other side of the road ordered there gun down and came out fast. To funny seeing the look on these poachers faces. Now here in Oklahoma you can just read the paper during the fall and see people gettin caught shooting at these mechanical deer. we have a HIGH number of poachers in Oklahoma (or at least in adair county).

Only poachers need to worry when they shoot , the rest of us don' t have to look over our shoulder before firing . Poachers deserve whatever happens to them . [>:]

Up near the in-laws in PA they set up one of these off the road standing in a clearing. They busted two guys for banging away at it, one with a 357 snub nose revolver!
Another year someone saw the decoy and tried to run it down with his truck!

Here in AZ we have got a buck set up so that his head swivels and a turkey that moves along a track.
We show some of the videos that the AZG&F dept has made of poachers shooting the decoys to our students in the Hunters Safety course.
