Default First buck! Finally!

Met up with a buddy Monday (12/26) and headed out to his land for my first hunt of this season. It was relatively warm out (57 degrees) and with high winds (at my back), I wasn't very optimistic that I would see any deer. I was more and less just sitting out there thinking ahead to the next day's hunt.

Getting bored......

Taking a nap.....

I wake up, look around and thought I heard a bleat. I look down the road and sure enough, here comes this doe, announcing her arrival. What an idiot! Soon after, several other deer emerge from the thicket. (In typical "field of dreams" fashion). I watch them feed through the road and into the next thicket.

Can you find the deer? I almost couldn't, and I was trying to follow them...

Thought about popping 'ol girl, but decided I would wait and see if anything better came out.....

Glad I did. I was beginning to give up and turned around to check out the field behind me and I thought I saw some brown on the edge. I kept watching and slowly but surely I saw a deer. For the heck of it, I brought my gun up so I could look through my scope. I can't describe the feeling of seeing antlers through my scope. This was the first buck I had ever even seen in the wild. I was a mix of anxious, nervous, and excited! I was shaking and still trying to believe what I was seeing in front of me. Once I gain some composure and steady my rifle, I dropped him, right in his tracks.

Took a while to text my buddy (with the spotty coverage) and tell him to bring the truck. Finally got it loaded up and off to become tasty grilled backstrap.

Decided on a shoulder mount, so I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival!!!!

'Find the deer pic'

Lower right quadrant, near the bottom.
Looks like a set of ears looking your way. Is that her?

Nope. Dead center, about a third of the way up from the bottom. A side profile stance........

The pic is small and blurry, so I am not giving you guys a fair shot!

Anybody have a weight guess? I didn't have a way to measure it. I way 200lbs, and it seemed almost as heavy as me. So what do yall think?
