Nice 8-point Score? (Pic)
1 Attachment(s)
I'm coming up with 144 gross and high 130s to 140 net. That seems high, but these are the numbers I'm guessing with:
MBs 24 24 G1s 5 5 G2s 10 10 G3s 10 6 H1s 4 4 H2s 4 4 H3s 4 4 H4s 3 3 Inside spread 20 inches. What do you guys think? |
Kill him then you will know for sure
|
I think your high with your numbers. I don't know if I even see 130"
![]() I killed this one a few years ago and he grossed 139 and some change and netted 136 and change. It takes a lot of bone for an 8pt to break the 140" mark. |
I think I agree with 2lunger, you seem a little high. Maybe low 130's tops.
Kill him then you will know for sure |
I would shoot him if I got the chance. Our season is coming to an end quickly. I have seen two spikes in the woods so far.
|
I say Mb are 18" and inside spread is 16" making it high 120's.

Barnes, you're always posting great trail cam pics. We're waiting on the kill pics tho! I feel ya for not seeing bucks. I've seen fifty doe and one small 3 point in PA so far. I've put in four full days into the woods. My last chance is Friday and Saturday. I'm taking a doe when I get the chance and hoping to see a legal buck. -Jake |

Bocajnala - where we hunt it is very thick. A couple thousand acres where we hunt was clear cut about 20 years ago. It is so thick that visibility is virtually nill in many places. The places it wasn't cut are swamps, thick hemlocks, blueberry thickets and the cliff edges.
This is great habitat for deer. But it's lousy habitat for finding them as a hunter. We see tons of deer in the fields at night and in people's backyards at night. But, in the woods in the day time, we see very few deer. The exception is archery, where we see tons of deer in the fields and on the edge of logging roads. But these are usually doe and young bucks. The big boys don't start showing until around Halloween. I wish one of those big shot TV hunters would come up to my camp and show me how to hunt these bucks. :D |
The head on shot confirms what I think he scores. The pic of the buck I posted is 19" inside with 21" main beams. I don't think his main beams are over 18" with an inside spread of 17". Plus he lacks tine length without mass to compensate for it.
|
Barnes,
We hunt a lot of areas like that too. Putting on drives runs the doe out, but the bucks are usually too smart for that trick. My sister did get a nice six point, her first buck. But other than that not much luck. -Jake |
For me he would be a wallhanger. The numeric score doesn't really matter to me.

I've watched this sucker for hours through our kitchen window :D I know he's wider than 16 inches. I'd go down to 18 inside, maybe. I have a buck on the wall with 22" and 25" main beams. I thought he was somewhere between the two. I'd go down to 22 inches on those as well. Here's a head-on of him. I think this is the same buck.
|
The other night my boy and I were spotting and saw a 10 pointer in our clover plot that dwarfed this sucker. I put my trail camera in the corner of that field and hope I get him.
If I take the experts' advice, I will hang a stand between the buck's feeding and bedding area. I looked at a topo map and came up with nothing. :D Just thousands of acres of big woods :D |
the score dont really matter to me, (dont get me wrong, I would love to have a 150" buck on the wall) But I know that if that deer walked in front of me, hnd I already have a spot on the wall picked out for him.
|
I think most of us feel that way big daddy. 120, 130 or 140 that is a very nice buck.
|
I agree that he's a really nice buck. I'd love to have him on the wall. The pictures will have to do for now. :D
|
i am coming up high 120's also
|
High 120s. I shot a nice 8 point with 11 inch g2s and 9-10 inch g3s with 19 inch spread and around 23 inch main beams. Thought for sure he was going to make the 140 mark. Ended up at 133. Here's the link to his pictures. Nice deer regardless.

I was thinking low and I mean low 120's
|
I'll agree he is probably pushing 18 inside.
|
with only 8 pts. it takes alot to get 130's. im guessing 125. 130 is all you can ask for with an 8

I didn't read all the posts but he would have trouble getting of the low-130's if that. I'm looking at a 132 on the wall and I don't think he is that good. probably good enough, though. I have two eights on the wall, a 145 even and a 142 and change and both are quite a bit bigger. This one is just 142 and 4/8

How about this sucker? This sucker was showing up two years ago. Nobody got him but he's laying low I guess. Having no G3 is going to hurt him, huh?

im going to say high 120s but he is a very nice buck.. thanks for poisting
|
Nice 8 Scribe but he had it all with good spread and long tines. He had great brows probably close to 6" and mass that added up. Not knowing what part of the country he came from I would have to guess certainly a 4 year old deer or better just looking at the base diameter. Really nice G2's and 3's. It takes a pretty good 8 to get to 140 no matter where you bag them.

First try at posting a picture from photo bucket. Here is an 8 pointer from Southampton Virginia. 160 something |

Only hurt him if that sort of thing matters to you. The buck I wanted the worst that lived on our property was only a 6-pointer. Maybe he would score 100". But he was 9 years old and 300lbs. Both ears were ripped up from fighting. He was a stud. I'm sure he could have thrown any Texas 200 incher like a rag doll :D |

2010 Best deer in Va, and gun Typical at Dixie Deer Classic at 164.
|
Once again.... a real beautiful deer. Like I said before it takes a slammer 8 to make 140 and that guy was beyond a monster.
|
thats a nice deer but its not 160

Assumiing the ears are 6" and extend out 15" Left G1=6 G2= 14...might be a little less G3=12 H1=5...probably more H2=4...probably more H3=3 H4=3 Main Beam=25...mains come way back together making a lot of length Total for left=72 Total for right= 72 Inside spread= 20 Total 164 Since the Right side is so symetrical I gave it a 72 as well Probably the best 8 I have ever seen from a score and symetry perspective. ![]() |
The Elisha Hugen buck from Iowa, shot in 1996, scored 185+ gross and 182 3/8. That was an 8-pointer.
There was a non-typical shot in Ohio a year or two ago that had a typical 9-point frame that was well over 200 inches. |
